Does it have something to do with embroidery?

The heads can go on different bodies and feet. Many different combinations with all the pieces.

Sick makes it very easy to do . I usually import the parts and sew as one. I do have a larger hoop I use to do this

I agree with la cole and snugsbear. Using the edit mode on your machine you select a head, then add (merge) a body and then add (merge) a set of legs / feet. Then you start to stitchout your desired gnome. As snugsbear commented you would need a larger hoop to do this without rehooping to add the parts. Hope that helps. Cathy

okay, that I understand, and I can import designs into my machine, line them up but when I do the embroidery ther black outlines from their bodies run over top the beards and at the waist the same happens. Am I assembling them in the wrong order or is there a trick to it?

I was hoping to do quilt blocks for assembly but the outlines are running over top of the other pieces.

Try starting with the feet and working your way up. That way, the pant section lays over the feet, the shirt lays over the pants, and the beard...

You can also print out a template to help with placement to prevent the overlap. It sounds like you need to raise your pieces up a little to prevent the overlap.

I did the whole set on felt, and now my son takes the pieces and assembles his own gnomes to play with.

I have the set. Thought I would create a "book". Stitch the heads, bodies, legs separately on pieces of felt and then layer all the heads and bodies and legs and put a cover and back over/behind all - connect with grommets/ribbon somehow. Then by Grandson can flip the body parts to create all kinds of combinations. That's my plan - anybody done this yet or have other ideas how to do?

I remember playing with a "flip book" as a child and laughing very hard at all the different arrangements. I took a look on e-Bay and found this:

      http://cgi.ebay.com/Flip-Flop-Face-B...d=p3286.c0.m14

You could do something similar with your gnomes using grommets and key rings. Let us know what you decide.

This sounds wonderful, if you do it please post a picture. Sounds like something I would love to do for my grandson.

The only problem I can see with the book idea is that one of the torso pieces has a long staff in its hand, and that wouldn't fit on the same page-piece as the other torso pieces. If you can figure out a way around that, I think that the book idea would be a lot of fun.
