I love the hunts, but sometimes the download is only 5 x 7. I only can use the smaller 4 x 4 PES designs. I wish we had an option of the two sizes if the designer offers both.
Just a wish or two, same would apply for the hour download or the daily download.![]()
Keep watching it usually shows in the other size
Im in the same situation (only 4X4 hoop) but if you watch the smaller size will show up. Im just thrilled to get as many of the ones I can use as I do. Some designs ONLY come in 5X7, or even larger. I have decided to stop feeling sorry for myself that I cant use them and started a "hope chest" folder for things I cant use till the day I can afford a bigger machine. Just a thought but start saving those big ones. You never know when you might upgrade your machine and how wonderful would it be to already have some free designs saved and ready to use![]()
Usually the designs are randomly picked so whatever comes up is what comes up. There are some designs that come up that is larger than my 5x7 but I save them for the day when I can stitch the size. You can also split larger designs to stitch them out. I had to do this for one of the neckline designs in order to use it. I have quite a few 5x7 designs that are no longer free or available from other places cause I saved them during the time when I only had 4x4.
It does sound like a lovely idea to have them offered in multiple sizes, but you have to remember that would actually be giving away even MORE free designs than Shawn is already. If a free design was available in 4x4, 5x7 and 6x10, most people would download it in EACH size, thus getting three designs instead of just one.
Plus, when a design is available in two sizes, they usually are NOT exactly the same because more detail can be contained in the larger designs, and so more detail often IS contained in the larger designs. Frequently, the 4x4 versions are either less detailed or are only a portion of the 5x7 version, which may then actually be only a portion of the 6x10 design.
The idea of creating a "hope chest" folder for larger designs is a very good one, and one that I have done myself. Try not to think of it as "I can't use that design," but instead as "I can't use that design YET!"
I'm so glad you mentioned the 'hope chest' as I was going to suggest that everyone do that - in the same way that we stash designs that we have no use for YET!
I'm so glad I did this for designs that I found early on, but had no idea why I would want them - they are the very designs that other people have asked me for!
My motto is 'if you have room for it, and it is not costing you - stash it!'
Who knows what 'fate' has in store for you - she may be just around the corner with the bargain of a life time! (in the form of a bigger hooped machine! LOL)
(I do have one or two designs that are even too big for my 200mm x 300mm hoop - so I guess that I am living in hope as well!)

it's funny this topic came up. i bought my machine in December, but it didn't come with Ped basic or a card reader or card so i had to purchase that later.
i started downloading "freebies" immediately for the day i would be able to use them. but only in 4x4. then just last month i had a DUH !! moment. So, i've now got a folder labeled "New Machine" that i've stuck 5x7 and larger files into. i probably won't be able to afford anything that will do larger than 5x7, but maybe by then i will have learned how to take out, or to split the designs i've saved.
so i also wish we had the option of more than one size to download, but i do understand the economics behind it thanks to Cutiepie.

I, too have a Hope Chest, even though my Brother can stitch the larger designs. I just 'hope' I live long enough to stitch them all. tee hee.
Great explanation Cutiepie and thanks bunches.
Another suggestion is to try to resize the design yourself. I have had some luck with this. Remember to test stitch these first.

Cutiepie - That was a great explanation of the economics behind giving away multiple sizes. It makes perfect sense. And I love everyone's idea of their hope chest of designs that they may some day need or wish for. I, too, gather them all, just in case... Cathy
There are softwares like Truesizer to do the re-size, please check the website.
