      Default Burp Cloths

Hope Im posting this in the right place. I have seen some really cute burp cloths in the pics so Im hoping someone here can give me a little help. The fabric added to the end of the diaper, does it go over (on top of) the diaper making a second layer or extend beyond the length of the diaper? Also from the end, how far up should it go? Then do you just turn under your raw edges on the front side of the diaper on all sides or do the bottom and sides turn over to the inside. I could look at the pics and fake it but I'd rather know Im doing it how it should be done
      Thanks, Becca

In a Australia a diaper is the napkin for the botty and the burp cloth goes over the shoulder in case the bub is sick.

These are burp cloths to go over the shoulder that are made from diapers for the booty

      good morning becca

burps are easy. i place the embroidery about the middle of the diaper. then i measure about an inch below it, to the bottom of the diaper. double this and add 1 inch for the length. after cutting the fabric, fold in half and iron or crease heavily.

sew from the back first. i like using about 1/2" seams. i don't measure these, i just use the edge of whatever foot is on the machine at the time. flip over

it looks better if the bobbin thread matches the diaper.

fold in all the edges from the bottom of the diaper and sew.

      just some little notes.
i put the embroidery about 9 inches from one bottom edge. this will become the top of my embroidery. i use the 2 seams of the padding as the vertical lines and the 9 inch for the horizontal. after diapers are washed, the edges never are straight, this is why i use my 9" as a guide.

i do use the fabric as a second layer. tried it with the fabric extending beyond the diaper, and did not like the effect. especially after it was washed.

how far up it should go is all on you. i've made cute ones with 5" and cute ones with 2".

i hope you can understand all this, i NEED coffee... lol..

Becca and Debi....I have made some your way prior Debi and they turn out wonderfully. I have also made some with the fabric as a second layer on the back. I have found as long as I prewash and dry both the diaper and the fabric there is no more shrinkage and therefore they turn out beautifully as well (you can also stipple this if you want to add texture or what I did by just added tact points.) There is no set way to make them that I have come across...I just use the basic sewing methods and the basic set up for embroidery and I did my own thing. I had also added some ribbon with decorative stitching to it and attached it to the fabric that shows in the front just for an added wow factor...
Just remember to have fun with it...

That may help you to visualize how they are made. Well at least one way out of a gazillion ways there are.
