E-bay also concerns me. If I were to consider a purchase there, I would be sure I could get a machine serviced where I live in case as la cole suggested it has problems. Singer wouldn't be a good candidate, unless you don't mind sending it to the factory for fixing.
i totally agree. ebay scares the crud right out of me. i don't mind making small purchases, but if it is over $100, i can't afford to write that one off. my son just bought something for his jeep, and it was no good. but as he got the item, pay pal, and ebay say there is nothing he can do. he is just stuck for a broken part.

Debi, is that Jeep part that he got "as advertised"? Because if the part ISN'T what the auction page said it would be, he DOES have grounds to go after the seller. It is mail fraud! So, if that is the case (not something like it was the wrong size, and he should have asked first) and it is actually broken when the auction page said that it was a working part, he needs to contact eBay "Safe Harbor" again and get them to help him. Yes, I did work for eBay (the actual company, not just as a seller) for a while before my boys were born. It's been a few years, but things CAN'T have changed that much.
I use ebay alot and have for the last several years and knock on wood, have been very satified. I alway check the persons feedback and their ratings. I never do anyone that has complaints of "the item not appearing to be what is listed" or "a never received item". Chances are if they have done it once, they will do it again!
When you make a purchase make sure you read the ad fully more than once, if you receive something that is different, file an item not as described in your ebay home page. Ebay will then research and if they find that the seller is at fault, you either get your money back, or they have to ship what was advertised. You can also leave a neg feedback to warn others. Ebay is more now a buyers market and no longer a sellers.
When I make a major $$ purchase, I only use companies that sell on ebay that are authorized dealers, but other than that, I take my time and do the research on who they are and who else offers the same items, I check out the sellers very carefully.
thanks Cutiepie, i will let him know. he just bought a house, and is pinching pennies, so every little bit helps. and this will help a Lot!
thank you

I have purchased lots of small items from e-bay...especially used embroidery design sets from the major companies and some supplies. Some of these sets cost $80-$150 when new. My software reads most of the major formats and I still have a floppy drive in my computer (I insisted on it when my hubby said I needed a new computer). I have saved a bundle of $$ and have never had a major problem. I generally don't purchase from "new" sellers, pay attention to feedback, and remain cautious until my merchandise arrives.
You could say that I got SiCK because of e-Bay. LOL
Never give up, never surrender.
I've purchased a few things on e-bay as well. I bought a set of out of print books that my mom had for us as kids, and I have bought a few other crafty items. I also check feedback, and have never bought anything very expensive. For those items, I want to see and touch.![]()
JUJU get a machine that has a usb port so you can use flash drives.
Alice
Both a very nice machine I have them both and eightr one is a good choice. I like the software that goes with the Bernina over pe design. it is eaiser to work with. artiests will convert pes but pedesign will not convert to art. Go take them for a test drive. and demo the software.
