Stripe
Ypur exatly right except we use the large yellow padded envelopes to mail the squares to the swap hostess because its a lot cheaper, usualy about $4 or so to mail it from within the US to the hostess. Make sure its a padded envelope so the blocks aren't dammaged in transit.
Happy sewing

No, I haven't gotten the pictures off of my camera yet. I'll try to get to those soon, though.![]()
Deborah, to quote several parts of someone else's post is easy once you've done it a time or two.
Click on the Quote button at the bottom of their post. You'll get a new reply window with their message already quoted. You'll notice that a quote starts with the "quote" tag and it ends with "/quote" tag. (only with square brackets in place of the quotation marks that you see here.) When put the bracket in here, it all disappears, so I'm using quote marks in place of the square brackets.
The slash in that second one is like a switch that turns off a feature, so slash-quote means "quote off."
So now, you highlight and backspace everything from the other person's post that you don't want to quote and leave only the sentences that you want to respond to.
Now type in the quote off function right after the the first sentence that you want to reply to - again, substituting square brackets for the quotation marks that you see here: "/quote" You can highlight and copy it, then go through the post and put a quote off tag after every sentence that you want to reply to.
Now type in a quote on tag - "quote" - right after the first quote off that you put in. Highlight and copy that and paste it in right after every quote off tag that you've put in.
You can now type a reply in between the quote off and quote tags (click your cursor in between the brackets and start typing.) If you click anywhere in the tags but right between the right bracket and left bracket, it will break your code and look funny.
Hope that helps - it sounds very complicated, but once you've done it it will be easy as pie for you.![]()

Oh this sounds fun. Could I ask that the pramaters be stated again. size, theme, number of blocks, name tags etc. Dreama
I am feeling sorry for myself.Like Grandma Ria, I have a huge show in Nov., and will be spending most of my time from now until then getting things ready for that, so I won't be able to join this swap. I would sooooo love to do it, as christmas and winter designs are my favorites!!! Remember the thread about Christmas decorations? How many of us had them up forever? Anyuway, I will follow y'all and drool over the pictures of your blocks.
P.S. no new baby yet.

I make and sell doll clothes for 18" dolls (American Girl). There is a big show the weekend after Thanksgiving that my mom and I do together. Last year we made almost $5,000! So I really do need to have an inventory. You all will have so much fun with this new swap. Maybe you will do another Christmas one next year and I can make my blocks the end of this December and be ready to participate lol

Do you do the same 40 blocks or do you do a bunch of different ones?
Help!! Those of us that have never participated before need information. theme decided, number of blocks, size, labels, are they all alike??? and any thing else we need to know. Thanks Dreama
You can do all of them alike or all of them different - as long as it meets the few requirements:
12½" square
Winter holiday theme
Labels are optional.
We don't know how many we'll be making until mid-September, when the deadline for signing up rolls around. Then we'll know how many swappers there will be and Deb can decide if we're making single blocks for everyone, or a pair of blocks for everyone.
If you start making blocks now and only make 4 or 5 every week, you will have wayyyy more than you need on the mail-by deadline. Enough left over to make a second top or to make the back side of your swap quilt a pieced one.

Dreama I have found that the most fun thing is that you did a lot of work but you also get a lot of variety from a block swap. I was looking over my blocks today; I am NOT allowed to start the top until tomorrow.
I started six 18" blocks (designed for hand embroidery) in June 1997 while in nursing school. I finished the quilt top TODAY!!! Hubby and I laid it out on the bed this afternoon and giggled like kids as we double checked to be sure all of the blocks were in the order I wanted. Have to add a couple of additional outside borders because he wants it to be wider (already 81" for our king size bed). We get our quilting machine next week so I want both quilt top ready to go so I can play!! Shall post pictures after I am done.

I can't wait to see you new quilt made with your new toy. I bet you will have loads of fun.
I need to get started on mine so I an have the quilt top from the first swap pieced together before I get going on the blocks for the new one.
There is never enough time!
I bought the fabric from Wal-Mart, still have it in the back of the car so I don't start to play before I finish the last one.
FYI for those of us that are fairly new at quilting: do NOT open your seams on the blocks. Iron them flat to one side. This increases the strength of the seam and that is very important in a quilt. I found this hint while learning back in March. It made sense after I read it a couple of times. In a garment there is equal pressure or very little on a seam but in a quilt the pressure is greater because of the overall weight of the piece; laying or sitting on it could weaken a seam and cause it to 'pop'. Just thought that I would pass this along.
