      Mrs. Buckeye,
Doesn't Haunaka celebrat the festival of lights and the miricle of the candle oil lasting 8 days? Since we Christians are basically a faith descended from the Jewish faith I think we should included its celebratations. I would say if celebrating Jewish customs was good enough for Jesus It should be for us.
But, including Haunaka would stretch the theme to winter holidays and we'd have to include Kawanza and I think Ramadam. Could get complicated.

(hope I haven't offended anyone with these comments.

Boblynn you are correct on the winter holidays. I too don't wish to offend and as a result I have no problem with which aspect of the joyful season a person celebrates. As a Catholic married to a Baptist it is interesting anyhow.

Good solution! A "winter holidays" quilt brings light blue, dark blue, gold and silver into the scene with Hannukah and snowflakes and icicles.

What do you think about the background color question? It does make things more uniform to specify white, for instance - but if someone is struggling with expense, they're going to enjoy the swap more if they are free to use what they have on hand. (This is the negative aspect of being open and laid back - I'm so flexible I can tie my own self in knots! )

      Swappers
I have a suggestion for the Christmas theme too. Instead of worrying whether it’s Christmas, religious or secular and including all of the other holidays that occur at this time of year, or excluding things like Santa. Why don't we make the theme for the winter holidays, and then each person would make block of what they believe in for this season.

I think that would that it would be so neat not to mention unique to have for instance blocks made by someone who's Jewish along side ones made by a Christian, or someone who celebrates Kwanza or Ramadam and maybe some winter blocks too, because there are also people who are agnostic or atheist who don’t believe in any religion.

I don’t know any religion that doesn’t teach the respect of other people’s religion and since we are located all over the world doing a swap like this. We do have many different religions’ and beliefs among us but we are all women doing one thing we have in common; our love for sewing quilting and embroidery and I would love to have blocks from all of you no matter your religion or beliefs.

Yes hun that is a good idea we will have a much broader choice of colors and like you said it may make it easier for some to join us and not to worry about the expense. I like all different colors anyway for my quilts, as a matter of fact I am going to take the blocks from last swap and from this one to make a beautiful large quilt. I think it will look great.

That's a wondeful Idea. Winter holiday. It would be cool to have a quilt with a lot of different blocks representing the idea of Peace and giving and love.

I like the winter theme and now that it is pointed out to have blocks of every belief system. Will make a very interesting conversation piece.

But my name has yet to end up on the list of participants.

Since it is now winter themed, does that mean we cant do pictures of Christmas trees and Santa and stuff Also just to clarify... We have to send you the finished blocks by October 31? When will you be closing the group so we know how many blocks we need to make?
and another one on the way!!

Munchkin - you can do something Santa related. That is considered a winter theme to. I plan to use some Christmas fabrics - so make what you want to with the fabrics you want to. That is what this is all about. There are no limits as long as you keep to the theme and make the overall size 12 1/2" square (12" block).

Our last one was floral. The blocks ranged from a Sunbonnet Sue applique with flowers to log cabin with flower prints - to some with embroidered flowers.

That's the beuaty of this swap. To enjoy making the quilt blocks and the finished quilt. I would call these "friendship" quilts. Blocks made by differeent people from all over who share a love of quilting, embroidery and sewing. Can't have better friends then that!

Boy you took the words right out of my mouth, LOL. Yes Santa is ok as well as anything that shows your religion whether it be Christian, Jewish, Winter or any other belief or religeon or what ever this time of the year means to you. Like tndenim said thats what this swap is all about; "Friendship".

I can hardly wait to see all the pretty blocks I am so excited to see what everyone makes. I am going to put all my blocks from last swap and this one into one quilt with everyones names on the top of each block they made. I think thats the coolest idea, that way I can see who made what block for years to come.

      Lynn
Your name will be put on the list hun, no worries there, but Deb is an RN and had to work today but she will add it as soon as she can I am sure.

      Munchie
Thats just beautiful, I love that one. Yes please use it. I am going to try applique this time I fell in love with it from some that I was sent in the last swap. I would love to have that beautiful tree. The sign up won't close for about a week or so and she is waiting for more joiners to come play with us. Yes were suppose to send the blocks to Deb by the 31 st of Oct. but thats not a hard rule because we all know things happen and come up that can delay us occasionaly. You would not believe what all delayed us last swap, LOL

      Grandma
So sorry you can't play this time but there will be another one I am sure.

      Elizabeth
Did you ever get the pictures of our blocks from the last swap posted yet, and if you did where are they? That may help some of the new people know what we did last time and it may help them this time.

      Happy sewing all

Okay, I think I understand now, 1. The finished block is 12-1/2" squared. 2. It can be either just pieced material, or an embroidered square. 3. We can put our name, city, state/country, on the block or put on a separate piece attached to back of square. 4. Add what you paid for shipping in an envelope in a box that will be used to ship your squares back. The box also contains the squares. 5. The theme is winter/holiday/Christmas. 6. The number of squares is still to be determined. 7. You will e-mail me with your address, and how many squares. If I got it right let me know and if I off base let me know too. Also if I missed an important fact let me know, this is the first time I am doing anything via e-mail, this is all new to me.
ADD ME TO THE LIST I AM GOING TO DO IT.

Stripe: sounds like you have things under control. Trust me we all asked the same questions at least 10 times then someone else would ask again. Elizabeth was/is so patient with us.

Bre: you are a Godsend and a blessing! Thanks for all you are doing.

DollyJ: Thanks for the web info.
