      Mary
No you do not have to embroider them at all and theres plenty of time to finish all the blocks for the swap before the dead line on October 31.

      Here’s the swap details:
The only thing really required is 12.5" blocks in a winter theme which means:

Christmas,- (religious or secular) including all of the other holidays that occur at this time of year, things like Christmas, Chanukah, winter scenes, or just blocks with Christmas materials, embroidered or not, or appliquéd; basically it’s what you believe in for this season or this time of year, with your personal touch. Thats what makes a swap like this so neat we get so many unique ideas and personalitys the quilts are so pretty.

The sign up list won't close until Beginning of October so we don't know how many blocks were making yet, but you would be the 18th person to sign up so far. The blocks are due to be sent in to Deb on October 31, so we have plenty of time to do a lot of blocks. The name blocks are up to you if you want to make them or not, they are not required. Name blocks re 2.5" by 4.5" little blocks with our name and state on them in case who ever get the blocks wants to use them in their quilts as I will do and Deb already did but they are not required.

      Hope this explains it all.

If you have any questions just ask. This is a great group of ladies who are always willing to help. Don't worry about being new either, most of us were all new in the last swap which just ended a month or so ago and as you can see we didn't do a bad job of making our quilt blocks.

If you look on page 9 here in this forum theres some pictures of the blocks we made last time, that Deb's made into her quilt top from the last swap. The last swap we all embroidererd the blocks but you don't have to this time.
      Happy quilting

Thanks for the info. I know there is a lot of time calenderwise, but I have a 1 year old and I work full time at my job, plus sewing orders. I might try to do one block and see how long that takes me. I would love to do it though so I will try to let you know asap!!

      Good Morning!!

Mary I too had doubts about the first one because I worried that I was not good enough, had never done a block in my life, was new to ME and many other things. Please look at the pictures of my quilt top again you you will see a vaste difference in the work on those blocks! We all did our very best, some plain, some embroidered, some standard quilt blocks and ALL very beauiful and unique. I treasure this quilt top because it is a labor of love from many hands!

I will be most pleased when I am done quilting the top of it too so that I can enjoy it on my bed and snuggle under all that love and talent.

BTW; 1/2 of us were newbee's on that swap!

Welcome Bibliostone to the swap...great to have you.

Elizabeth...that quilt is beautiful...I can only dream.

Mary...you can use your scrap material. You need one winter/holiday fabric in the block however you want to use it.
      or
      an embroidered design
      or
      an applique

      or any combo thereof.Your choice.
In the first swap...I used scraps that were pretty plain(solids mostly). I was concentrating on the art of quilt block patterns. The embroidery I added was simple on some, a bit more on others. My friend used(tried out for the first time) her decorative stitches also on hers.

You can take your time....creativity...and make the deadline.
Please join us,it will be fun.Try anyway.

Mary- Just do a few blocks at a time. Decide on a pattern and - fit them in when the schedule permits. You've got a lot of time. I work full time and have a craft booth I keep supplied with new stuff - plus help take care of three elderly relatives. And trust me - they are almost as heard to deal with as a kid!

Bibliostone I would also like to welcome you to our swap, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we all did the last one.
      Deb
The mountains are so beautiful, I love them too. I wish you luck finding a place in the mountains, I know you would love it. I bet you had a blast white water rafting. I did that once and we had the best time ever.
      SusieQ
If you can’t find any blue fabrics soon try the online shop I linked they have great fabrics and at this time of year it’s so hard to find any holiday fabrics yet anywhere.
      Mary
I agree with Luna try a block or and see if you can find some time to make a block or two a week and you may find that you have the time to join us.

Bre; I am really looking forward to joining the fat quarter club! I bet I spent 3 hours searching different sites checking out great deals. Found one site that has 50 for $59 but there are 'what ever is left', don't want to deal with something like that!

I started my blocks today I am doing some with embroidery and some that are strictly quilt blocks. I am loving this because it is "Christmas" with all those pretty colors and designs.

Mary you have the most love and support here (out side of you family). Luna, Bre and everyone is right about the block thing: ONE at a time.

Elizabeth I never told you that I love that quilt! It is beautiful. In my next life I want to be that good.

I found a wonderful site in the middle of the night for long, med and short arm quilters to do those gorgous designs on quilts. Like everything else 'let the buyer beware' price wise. A single design can go for $6.50 - 50! Just for giggles check out this site:
      www.kenquilt.com
I found cats, mice, rabbits, dogs, bears and tons are neat things to do. am waiting for the 4 designs that I bought so I can finish my quilts. With out the patterns I decided that my work looks like a 2 year old on crack did it PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!

I have 6 blocks made. I am now in the process of adding a design to them. Being it is my first time the first 2 are really ugly and I think I will keep them, So I can truthfully say, I have one completely finished. I am on the ball, ha ha, I am hoping to have the designs on the remaining by the end of the week.

Honey please describe UGLY!! I have seen/done things that I know were butt ugly and someone thinks they are the most beautiful thing on the planet!! So don't worry about it! Have fun! I worried myself stupid last time that my blocks were not good enough, too plain, too this, too that and they turned out rather nicely!

I am always taking blocks to work (from what ever quilt I am doing) and the staff loves all of them! They are now picking out favorites But this is how I got commisions to do 5 quilts so far

I absolutely love hearing about these blocks.I love this swap.
      Brag klarina..you go girl !!

Stripe..keep on making those blocks. I am sure they are beautiful.I had doubts about some of my own. Then some of my better ones...I messed up after doing the block part correctly...in my color choices in the ME.After changing colors..I made them worse. If there is a mistake to be made..am sure it was..in our first swap.I could almost make an extra quilt out of mine.
      so NOT to worry.<win k>
Do not doubt yourself...sew happy !!
