it's 7.30am here in the netherlands and first thing i did when i woke up was looking if the baby was born. havent missed it. still no baby hope for mom it's coming soon now

I missed it by minutes, but saw much of the previous hours! It has been such an insight into the patients of the elephant - and what an adoreable outcome!

they know for 99% it's a baby girl now!!! how adorable!!!! mom and aunty are protecting the little one very well.
My daughter is bouncing off the walls because the baby was born this morning and we all seen it. The most beautifull birthdaypresent for her!!!! Today is my daughter's birthday and she will allways remember this!

We had a baby elephant born in the Vienna zoo in 2002, he was THE big star then, whole schools went on excursions to see Abu, stamps were released with his picture on, television and newspapers reported on him regularly as if he were a Hollywood celebrity, etc. But in 2005 he killed his keeper, who took care of him since the day he was born, in a tragic accident. Abu is now in a German zoo (Halle/Saale).

I checked this morning and a new baby is there. Awful crowded cage for 4 elephant, especially with the baby.

I expect it's just an 'inner room'. I'm certain that zoos these days are kinder to their 'inmates' than they were when I was young. (I used to hate zoos because the animals seemed like prisoners, but these days there is a lot more space given them - and I've taken my children to 'Safari Parks' here in the UK, and enjoyed the experience.)

Yippee, we have a new baby elephant! I last checked around 1 a.m. my time and she was still not born. I woke up at round 3.a.m. and thought about checking, but crawled back in bed. This is so exciting and a special memory for your daughter.
Thanks bunches for sharing the link yesterday, I watched off and on all day...hee hee I went to the original site you posted and they have a longer clip of the baby and everybody going in circles around her. So sweet!!
