The english method, as far as I get from books, is when you tack the fabric to a paper form, then sew them together by hand by overstitching the edges.
I have used a gluestick instead of basting to get the fabric on to the paper

You have donmoe a lovely job with your quilting. I am a quilter and you should be very proud starting with such small pieces. KUDOS to you!!!!
I would say that your first attempt is very good! I think you are off to a great start. You will probably be addicted to it in no time! I am working on some quilt blocks. Don't know when I will get them done. Always something going on. Good luck on your blocks and be sure you post them when you are finished!
