      of course.
The english method, as far as I get from books, is when you tack the fabric to a paper form, then sew them together by hand by overstitching the edges.
I have used a gluestick instead of basting to get the fabric on to the paper

Tania, I like the fabrics that you chose - very nice!

I just started learning about English paper piecing, too. Here's a page with a great explanation and a pattern for hexagons that you can print on card stock and cut out:
      http://www.ciaspalette.com/patterns/...hhexagons.html

Here's another how-to page and another page of hexagons to print and cut out:
      http://www.craftstylish.com/item/833...iecing-project

Hexagons are for the Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern, among other things.

Thank you Tania and Elizabeth, now I understand that technique! But nothing for me ... I'm the machine-sewing-type!

I would say that your first attempt is very good! I think you are off to a great start. You will probably be addicted to it in no time! I am working on some quilt blocks. Don't know when I will get them done. Always something going on. Good luck on your blocks and be sure you post them when you are finished!

thanks a lot for your nice comments.

This is going to be a sampler quilt with different patterns, but the same fabrics in all the blocks.

This technique gets under your fingernails awfully fast - it's another addiction in nothing flat.
