I got that as a kid in the United States, I was called not just a Nazi but all kinds of nasty name for being of German decent. My family originated south of Frankfort. Shari

I attempt to learn a few key phrases and words to use. But with a camera hanging about the neck and a large book bag in tow, we are not hard to miss.
LOL - camera and guidebook are typical attributes of tourists worldwide and wherever they come from, so that's not typical for Americans

Blending in is something I always try - and most times I'm absolutely succesful with it - so much that at some times even the local people would ask me for directions etc.!

What I can remember of real bad behavior: lighting a cigarette inside Notre Dame Cathedral and then swearing at the guard who politely asked that person to stop smoking; trying to enter a church in Salzburg with bare upper body and shorts; calling an elderly waitress a stupid ***** because she did not understand the American slang the "lady" spoke; devastating a hotel room with the excuse the hotel rooms in Austria were so cheap compared to the US so it could not be worth much; ...
And I remember an American consultant working as IFRS specialist for KPMG, with whom I was travelling from Vienna to Linz (about 2 hours ride by train); he was approached by a tourist couple ,,, when they left for the dining car he felt obliged to appologize for their behavior in the train.
Only a few spotlights, but the sad thing is that the outcome of these "fistful" of people is devastating. They do not realize that when travelling abroad they are representing their own country and that their country and countrymen are judged according to the behaviour they display. It is this stupidity and ignorance that drives me mad and makes me sad.

this thread started with the question what everybody was doing ... right now I'm watching Paris Eiffel Tower stitch out. I'm planning to sew a tote bag for my sister who lived in Paris a while ago and use the stitchout on it. We share a lot of wondercul memories of this time.

What I like most about this thread is no matter how far back this thread gets when we are doing something we always come back and post what we are doing or what we have just done. It almost feel like you are a part of someones day.

Well, it was a very nice day here in Nothern Michigan, in the 70's and clear after several days of rain. Can't complain. Today I went in for a class on my Janome 350. The instructor was late, it was a medical emergency so I won't complain. What was hard is that I wanted help with the Customizer program. I seemed to know more about it than she did. Learned nothing new. By the time she got there, we only had about 20 minutes before the bus showed up for me. And then I had the hour bus ride home. It was definately a waste of a day.
One nice thing about the bus ride though, the driver saw I didn't have a diet Pepsi (I always have on within reach but had gone 4 days without). He ran in to get someone and got me a Diet Pepsi. Now how sweet can you get. I am definately spoiled by my local transit people. I have been riding now for 15 years (Yikes, I haven't driven for that long!!!).
So at least I had a nice visit.
      Have a great night all.

We had a very pretty day here in Northern Utah, but a storm is blowing in this evening; supposed to last for the most part of a week.

I did a lot of general sewing today. Finished 5 pairs of American Girl Doll jeans, and shipped off an order. That one has been hanging over my head for a couple of days; glad to have it finished. I have a substitute teaching job tomorrow, and then can get on to an embroidery project---but which one should I do next?

I sell them for myself from my home. I have a small site on etsy, but don't seem to do too well there, so don't have much listed. There is so much saturation. I did a craft show here a few years ago, and word of mouth was excellent. The order I sent out was to a girl in Salt Lake City (2 hours away). My girls also get the word out for me; I have four daughters and none of them lives closer than two hours away. If I hadn't had to have these mailed out for a girl's birthday, I would have tried to do ME on the jeans. I did do a couple of dresses at Valentine's day with embroidery on them. So, I guess besides sewing, embroidery, and reading, dolls are one of my passions.

I woke up to it alreadyh being heat and I am puffed up like a cow. I was ready for spring not the excruciating heat of summer. Not ready to turn the air on yet. I like a break from hi gas bill before hi electric bills, and besides..my coffee ain't kicked in yet, arrrgh.

I'm going to meet some friends this afternoon for lunch and catchup on some gossip...oops, I mean what they have been up to.

The temperature here is 36 F, light wind, and not a cloud in sight, daffodils finally started blooming about a week ago.

Molly, what about the bushes and trees you were planting recently? Do they like their "new home"? I was planting a little tomato plant, a passiflora and some mint and rosemary the other day.

So far so good. I planted some seeds with the 5yo grandson yesterday. I am extremely proud of my new grapevine so far. We are making a new herb garden as well.
