Lemons, are the machines, that break down and always need help.
I will stick with Janome. My first real sewing machine is a Janome 4000, about 15 years old. It does lettering, like redwork, but not satin stitch. It was the best at the time. I have used it to sew everything in all this time, so when I was able to purchase embroidery machines, I choose Janome. I now have 3 Janome machines 10001,
300E, and MB4, and am happy, they are not proprietory machines, so no expensive special cards, readers or anything like that. I do also own Janome Digitizer, but that is by choice, not because I required it.
I hope you get your machine fixed Martine. But in the meantime have fun with the grand children

I know what I missed, but at that time I was fully employed with Two little daughters ... not easy to leave some space/time for these activities I have now. More, the price ofthe machines was such I did not even looked on the embroidery ones which seemed to me "out of reach" !!!

Now it's different and I love staying in my basement "sewing room" ! When the weather is beautiful, it's a little hard except during summer when the temperature outside is "tropical" my basement then is like a small oasis !!!

I'll have so pictured made this afternoon of my "mess" and a few other cushions ...

My dream today would be to buy another "wonderembroidery" machine such as a brother 700 !! but I fear the threading !

      Have a nice day !

Thanks for your very long message ... and for your kind support. Margot & Melvil will keep me busy the whole week, so I will not have any time for sewing !!!

Hopefully, the weather is gorgeous and we can have them outside in the garden and take them for long walks !

Enjoy your embroideries. How is Tracey ?

      Good night !

When I went looking for an embroidery machine, I went to see the Viking SE. It messed up while they were demonstrating it to me. I was assured that it only messed up during demonstrations, but ran beautifully otherwise. I left the store and continued looking. I ended up buying the BabyLock BMP6 and I love it.

I have had this type of experience when I wanted to buy a serger in the early 90's. The Husqvarna demonstrator obviously did not how to use the machine and instead of calling someone who knew, made a real mess ... So I bought an ELNA one of the early electronic ones the 945 type ... I had a 2 hours lesson and paid and off I went !!!
You can guess that I only used a little of its capacities. When I moved from Paris area to South of France, I broke needle which caused more damage that expected and had it repaired locally by someone claiming he was "ELNA" representative. Obviously they did not know anything about it and the repair damaged the electronic card said another ELNA representative near Lyon .... finally, I sold it after a simple repair - the electronic card was not damaged at all - and the lesson is that we need to choose the right supplier and this is the most difficult thing to do.

Now I have a Bernina serger, and it works OK !!!! Amen't I lucky ?

When I bought my first new sewing machine I also wanted a new serger. I had an old serger which was probably best for a boat anchor ( too old to be useful for serging), so I decided to trade that on my sewing machine and then went to Sears and bought a Kenmore ( US-new Home) serger. I did not know they were also made by Janime, but at 1/2 price. I still use that serger, but went and bought another one when they were 1/2 price, because you never know when one will no longer work.
2 weeks later my friend wanted to sell me hers, but I did not have cash, only a gift certificate for a plane ticket. She wanted to sell hers to get a plane ticket so she sold me her old Janome and gave me $100.00. My certificate was for $250.00. My dealer told me he would have sold the old Janome for $600.00. so now I have 3 sergers. My friends was hardly used, and she still had all the original paperwork, so now I have more sergers than I need, but am going to set one up to do rolled hems only and then when I want to make napkins and stuff it will be ready. I get mixed up changing the machines over because I don't so it often enough, so this will solve the problem.

I'm happy you love your machine. The main thing when we choose a machine is to compare, see the demos as well - and sometimes, the demonstrator does not know the machine enough to carry on a good one - but the quality of the supplier/retailer is as important as the quality of the machine itself.

I'm happy, mine is a professionnal one who cares for his customers and does his best to try to sort out problems before taking extreme decisions ! I think my problems are on the way to be definetly solved by working together with him, carrying embroidery tests and get lessons from him to optimize my knowledge of my machine and my software !

I'm still learning and happy to do so !

What drove me nuts when I got my Designer1 was that it would not
stitch very well with poly thread. I tried numerous brands of poly,
as I could only get marathon brand poly here in canada, i got some different
brands of poly from a friend in the states. I got the same results.
( everyone sells rayon in canada )

I tried numerous things. The dealer looked at it and would not adjust
any settings. Said they were what the book had and would not deviate.
I was getting loopies on top with poly big time. So were numerous other
people with poly thread. But other numerous people had no problem.

I tried numerous things with tenions.
I finally bought a second bobbin holder part
so I could set the tension different in both. It was only slightly better
if not my imagination. I must have spend 4 months of non stop testing
and asking questions. I got nowhere slowly.

The only thing I did find was that " one " design only would stitch
ok. It was an alphabet. So I tried to analyze the design to determine
      what the difference was.

Eventually I broke down and some rayon thread for the D1. I have been
very strict with my purchase of the rayon thread and have limited myself
to 100 colors since I have so much poly thread. The other machine,
... viking #1+ does not like rayon .

So I would not buy another viking embroidery machine. I think they should
have a setting on these machine so you can select "poly" or " rayon "

Next machine might be a Janome, but I would make sure it could accept
      either poly or rayon ...

these machines are very expensive, I almost feel like they think that
because we are home sewers, it is ok to give us problem machines.

The viking software is way over priced. updates prices kill you too.

I am experiencing the same thread pbs with lower price rayon thread (chinese) and from one colour to another the alarm of my machine would ring. But it happens too with Madeira which is one of the best quality over here !! And, for myself, I do not want to adjust too much the thread tension. May be because I do not feel confident enough with it !

As to your difficulties with your retailor / repairor ... some are very good, some are less good and some are just able to sell and make no aftersales follow up !! Those deserve that we know about them and let it know. Those machines cost a tremendous price and WE DESERVE the aftersales service, I suppose it is inclusive !!!

As to the HV 4D software, I'm only a "basic" user, still learning ... I cannot make any evaluation unless that I find it difficult to use and expensive too !!!! When I bought it, I did not know I could have bought PES Design for a lesser price : is it tru it is less expensive too ? I do not even know if the equivalent of 4D Pro is PES design ??? or another one ! I'm ignorant in this matter. May be some other who know may issue a special thread on this matter ? Any volonteer ???

When you buy a machine, you may find on the web comparative charts as to what the machine is able to do. I have not found any comparative chart including the price for the top machines ...

If you know better, please just tell me. I'm collecting info for my own concern and may be for some others !

      Merci

      Martine
