I am also delighted that continents are no longer a barrier to friendship, and there is always someone to chat to somewhere around the world, no matter how 'un-civilized' are the hours you keep. (I am an insomniac as well as everything else!)
I have the same feeling about where I live. I love "this old hotel" all the space and the way we have created each space just for us and our way of living. I love our company being a flight down the elevator commute. We are right down town so I can walk anywhere easily if we need to. When it snowed so much this year we could walk to the grocery, the pharmacy, church, etc. However, I do choose to mostly shop in the neighboring city most of the time for the selection and the privacy. Little towns are rummor havens and if you buy hemoroid medicine half of town knows it before you even get to the check out stand. lol.
It is especially hard on my dh. He hasn't a thing in common with the people here. He grew up as a well-to-do city boy, attended The seminary (Catholic), was the head of (paid staff) of one of the largest state wide non-profit organizations, and was responsible for hosting and organizing a huge trade show in the Seattle King Dome, hob nobbing with governors and the most elite restaurant owners from around the state. Here we are in farm country and good ol' boys. He just can't click with the guys around here. It was very lonely for me here too until I discovered the Martha Pullen forum and this group. It has made all the difference for me. Love that somebody is always awake somewhere in the world.
As far as supplies I buy a lot on line too. I do have a good Viking Store in the neighboring town, but to buy fabric for much of anything but quilting is hard. I pick up a lot when I travel or when I go to see my big girls (32 and 34) in Seattle.
Even though we are out in the dingles (only town in the county) we don't have a car per person. We were just talking about getting a car for our DD who will be driving soon. She said she'd rather share with us and have a grand piano! I don't know what kind of car she was thinking we had in mind, but I'll tell you it would be a lot cheaper than a grand piano. lol DH said we probably should be thinking about getting her a grand since she had trouble practicing with her last piano piece because she didn't have a grand to practice on at home, spinets have no half peddle. I guess that means no cruise for us this year. lol I try to remember she is probably the one who will change my diaper or pick my nursing home when I am old. lol
If my daughter is a princess, that must mean I am Queen.
