      Talking Obsessive Embroidery Disorder

Hahha .. you gotta check this one out:

      http://www.cigarcityarts.com/eai.html

There are many easily identifiable symptoms of OED. Having any or all of the known symptoms is cause for concern. Generally, if you suffer from more than three of the symptoms listed below, you are suffering from this disorder and should seek help. These are just some of the known symptoms of OED. There are many more, some of which have yet to be identified. Further symptoms will be added to the list as they are discovered.
You suffer from OED if you:
      • Would never dream of leaving the house without wearing embroidery
      • Named your embroidery machine(s)
      • Have actually read all or part of your machine manual(s)
      • Think two embroidery machines is still not enough
      • Have more embroidery designs than recipes
      • Cooking has become foreign to you
      • Belong to more than three online embroidery groups
      • Think nothing of ripping out seams in garments so you can embroider on them
      • Have more embroidery thread than your racks will hold
      • Spend more time with your machine than your family
      • Have been surprised to learn that you have three kids living at home, not two
      • Think Technicolor refers to thread charts
      • Are trying to figure a way to embroider your car seats
      • Never hear the phone ring because your machine is running
      • Turn your machine on before the coffee pot every morning
      • Never turn your machine off
      • Ask for stabilizer instead of jewelry for your birthday
      • Try to convince your law enforcement friends that bullet proof is not good
      • Think sewing just one design on a garment is a sign of weakness
      • Envision your living room carpet as an interesting fill stitch pattern
      • Look inside garments in stores to see what stabilizer was used
      • Can't wait until your spouse leaves town so you can embroider all night
      • Look for R/A or Pantone color numbers on cans of house paint
      • Think of dust bunnies as household pets
      • Design monograms in the dust on the coffee table with your finger
      • Never give a gift without having embroidered on it first
      • Can't relax to sleep unless the machine is running in the background
      • When visiting, you drive instead of flying so you can take your supplies
Oy vey ... it's ME and I've only had my machine since 12/25 !!! What am I going to do? (I've always thought of dust bunnies as pets - now I can prove it to hubby hahaha)

OMG! That has described me to a T! I have OED! Wait until I tell my daughter. I always drive the 12 hours to her house, so I can take my machine. I always fill up my PED card with all the designs that I think the granddaughter will want me to use while I am there. This so funny and true! And I answered yes to a whole lot of them! LOL!

Oh My Goodness!! 2 yrs ago I flew to visit family in Fl...I took my em...the stewardess kind of roughly SHOVED it in the overhead compartment, slamming it down as she did it. Needless to say when I got to my cousin's house took "Betsy" out of her case...she was broken! I was sooooo very upset. When I got back home, broken machine in tow, I cried to my b/f who took me out the next day to buy a new one...lol. I go to Fl. in April and Oct....the last 2 times I've driven 22 hrs so I could take Betsy2..lol.

If you think you're going to find anyone who wants to be cured of this on this site, I fear you're in for a VERY long wait!

      Default Ha this is good

I had to put this on my blog. Ya know, spread the word kind of thing. I have confessed now for several months.

the idea is, do not drive past a fabric store.

sounds like i have it. it also sounds alot like a fiber addict (can never have to much fiber, yarn, designs, patterns)
the fiber addict handshake probably is similar also. you don't shake hands, you brush the fiber of whatever they are wearing to see what fiber it is, touch the fabric (or knit, crochet) to gently caress it to see the pattern the fiber and any interesting designs (embroidery also)

I am an addict and there is no cure; I have come to accept that. But, I still may have more recipes than embroidery designs as I have been collecting cookbooks for many more years and hubby believes in books.

Geez, I thought it was only me and my friends that were like this. Am I ever glad that I found all you here, to share this wonderful addiction. I got my machine 1st machine 3 years ago and now I have a new machine and traded the old one in. ( wish I still had it,.)

Aha....Jessie and I fit this to a "T". All except for the dust bunny thing. My son and I have asthma...so the house has to be cleaned all the time. I just get up very early to do it so I can start sewing the minute...literally...everyone leaves.

Have to let you know .... my mom was also an antique collector fanatic. Dad knew that if she saw an antique store OR a fabric store while we were on vacation - there was no sense in speeding up

I agree with you. I live my life by it.
I think that there are only about 2-3 things on that list that I don't do. One is bring machine on holidays. Huby would not go for that. No sewing in the travel trailer.

And just what 12 step program is that? The one that begins "step one: get a permanent sewing area. Bribe or blackmail husband if necessary"?
