I do the same things. I go to the local craft mall for ideas for presents especially for Christmas. Great ideas and they don't cost me a thing.

I remember my sister once had a shirt - high end - high price tag - and I measured everything - the width of the button band - the length of the collar points - the depth of the cuff - and recreated it myself - doubt anyone could tell the difference. I sometimes find that patterns from the main pattern companies are not always absolutely up to date with current trends - if you alter details to be the same as what is in the stores your clothes can maintain a very current edge without costing a fortune.

*Sigh* What I am short on at the moment is time. I used to copy clothes and create my own as well, but now . . . I looked at myself the other day and realized that the newest item of clothing I had on was the coat I got for volunteering with the Olympics, back in 2002! My wardrobe is SO in need of assistance!!

I know just where your'e coming from. Once I was so organised I guess I could possibly have been scary. Not only was I holding down 3 Paying jobs, I also made most of my own clothing as well as making sweatshirts for my husband and 3 sons as well as whipping up support knickers for my elderly mum and making and selling exclusive raffia hats. Since I retired I seem to think I have all the time in the world and that what I don't do today I can do tomorrow and I am here to tell you this particular site and forum has made it worse. I just can't stay off it. Nikki

I have found as I get older..I seem to either run out of time to do everything I use to or maybe I am taking on more and just don't realize it..I don't know, but I could go without having to spend my time wasting it cleaning..it really is over rated.

It seems to me that the more space I have, the more I fill it, and the more time I have, the longer everything takes.
When I have to do something 'at the last minute' it always gets done (by the skin of my teeth usually - but at least done) but when I have plenty of time to do a project I spend so much time thinking about it and planning it, that it is still the eleventh hour before it gets done!

Well girls you know what they say- if you want something done, give it to someone who is busy, because if you give it to someone who has nothing to do it will not get done. I have found this to be true so often. As you say the eleventh hour is the time that I always seem to get that essential request. Especially b/days and Christmas. Usually about 4 days to a week before they want something digitzed and embroidered. Touch I have never failed YET!

Well, I guess that depends on what the dresses look like and how many bridesmaids there will be. My mom did some bridesmaids dresses that were purple taffeta, with lots of fiddly fabric rosettes on them. Plus, there were 12 bridesmaids! We were SO sick of purple taffeta by the time they were done!!

Oh those colors sound wonderful. I bet it will just be beautiful and it really helps that the dresses will be fairly simple. Please post pictures when your done. I love pictures and I'm the worst at posting. I'll have to make that a priority this weekend.

I just thought of a little story I want to share. My sister-in-law, Emily, recommended me to her sister, Elaine, for doing alterations and such (Everyone in their family has a name starting with either E or L). Since then, I have done quite a bit of sewing for her and other members of their family. Well, Elaine's son was getting married and Elaine wasn't able to find anything to wear as the mother of the groom. The colors were deep brown and champagne, just like the wedding srobins is sewing for. Elaine is a size 26 (quite large, for those not familiar with US sizing), so there was just nothing available to her. Anyway, she came to me on the Monday before the wedding, nearly in tears. She was to the point of considering dying her favorite skirt dark brown, just so she would have something. I don't know that it would have even worked, since the skirt was a medium gray in color. I instead dragged her to the fabric store and we got some fabric in the right colors, and a pattern for a blouse. Then, I took her favorite skirt (which she didn't have to dye after all) and copied it in the chocolate brown. Fortunately, this was before I got pregnant with my twins, or I would never have been able to complete an outfit like that in time for the wedding on Wednesday morning. Nothing like a little time crunch to get the adrenaline going, huh?
