"In the Hoop" designs relate to projects that are completely created in the embroidery hoop. See the link below (from Designs by Sick) which has photos of the steps involved in creating a Mother's Day project in the hoop. Hopefully this will help rather than trying a detailed explanation in this forum. You may have to copy and paste the link if it does not automatically come up.

I think I am addicted to categorizing! I don't even think about the points anymore. I just categorize the design as if I were doing it for my own files. That makes it much easier than doing it to try to match what someone else thought.

With the visual I think I understand better. If I ever get a point then I'll know for sure.

      Default Still confused

I tried categorizing a few of these and rather quickly gave up. It really isn't easy making the choices. (However I'm sure I did not say a clown was a bug!)

Some examples of the right way to do this would be helpful. When we started there were some instructions, but I can no longer find them.

When you go to do a categorization, it states to check ALL that apply, but some people are suggesting that it is best to pick the one that best fits. For example, a Christmas design, should it be Winter AND Christmas? (I realize in the southern hemisphere Christmas is in the summer.) If a design would be nice on a quilt, do you check that, or only if it is specifically a quilt design, like the butterfly quilt? I am looking at a design in one of the open flower sets and it looks like it could be used as an applique, or maybe also a cutwork. And would be beautiful on a quilt. So do you check all three boxes? However I don't see a category for satin stitch specifically.

I was looking at a celtic corner to categorize with a beast in the design, and for animals, there wasn't one, but I didn't want to click "not an animal." In tags there is a fantasy category to use, but what do I do with the animal section?

Maybe I am too indecisive to help with the categorizing!

I am with you..I want to be able to find things in a search so that is how I am catagorizing too. Makes it so much more fun and easier than second guessing anyone else..

Is is the hoop the same as taking a large hoop and editing many designs and moving them around to create the design you want? That is what I do most of the time , especially on ladies and childrens clothes. I love to do that. Romans1212

I began by checking what others had put, but then I began second guessing myself. Now I don't even bother with that. I categorize the way I would for myself and ignore what others are doing. I'll either get points or I won't, but I am having fun.

I wonder how many designs are already categorized yet... 25% ? 50% ? More? Less? - I'm soooo curious!
Can't wait to see the final results!

      Romans1212,
You had asked about "In the Hoop" designs. I had responded to someone else earlier today. "In the Hoop" designs relate to projects that are completely created in the embroidery hoop and end up as stand alone projects. They are not embroideries on clothing, for example. See the link below (from Designs by Sick) which has photos of the steps involved in creating a Mother's Day project in the hoop. Hopefully this will help rather than trying a detailed explanation in this forum. You may have to copy and paste the link if it does not automatically come up.

brownabel, thank you for explaining "in the hoop" designs, and providing the link to show the projects. They were very pretty and I really enjoy seeing instructions showing how to do different embroidery projects. Romans1212

So, I'm going back to plan B (voting was plan C). There will be 10 people allowed to categorize a single design. The most common will be accepted. Anyone who submitted the entries that used the most common categories will be awarded points.

So... GAME ON... start categorizing for real! The points awarding will start happening in the next days.
Seriousley only 3 people voted ??? Wow! aaaargh ! No wonder .....
I vote for all realistic designs, multi colored or outlines
Fills are okay but I have a thing for classic clean lines ...
      Plan C ? Do you have plans D E F ready

      Hi,
I just wanted to be clear on this.
When you enter the most common categories you believe would apply to something you are looking for many categories. So if someone enters multiple entries that are more vague if they are considered the common categories then they will get the points. What if you only selected one area in each category which matched the consenous? I just want to make sure all the hours and hours I am putting into the process will yield some points or if I have to match 75% of the categories agreed by a few people.

The other thing that makes me nervous is that under the animal category they have "Adult" and then under the other categories they have "Adult" listed again (as well as a few other catergories such as "Toddler". If you listed it under animals but it was agreed as an adult design under the general category then will it still count?

      Thank you
      Cynthia

cgillen, This is how I understand the points will be given.

There is a design, and you say it is Redwork, Winter, Christmas, Not an Animal, Flowers and Plants, and Baby. Two other people categorize it as: Redwork, Not a Season, Christmas, Not an Animal, Flowers and Plants. So, you would each get 2 points for the 3 in common: Redwork, Christmas, Not an Animal, Flowers and Plants. With 10 people categorizing, most likely there will be others that agree with the Not a Season and Winter, which are contradictory, but that is ok, it is just different opinions. When someone makes a mistake because they are overtired and have a terrible cold and click "Bug" for Clown when they are categorizing, (I'm the guilty one! I admit it!) it is not a problem because other people won't make the same mistake.

Shawn is not having us vote on the categorizing anymore (Plan C) because it appeared that some were just going through and clicking "I agree" on everything without really looking at it. That is why 3 people said they agreed with my "Bug" for a clown.

oh well, one should not be categorizing an hour after midnight, almost falling asleep: I was doing a whole page, and only before the second last design I realized that with the others I forgot to push the "Send These Categories"-button, but hit the back button instead! Time to be off and away...

I like borders and corners, but don't see how to pick those two in particular. Maybe
I am looking at this all wrong.

Shawn (the owner of SiCK, his name is Shawn Charles Knight), has added many designs and wanted a new search feature. So, he decided to let us categorize the designs.

Plan A: After each design was categorized by 5 people, the results would be compared and the new search could go into effect. This didn't work out so well, so after a day he scratched that.

Plan B: (What we have now.) After each design is categorized by 10 people, the results are compared by a computer program, which Shawn is writing, and the new search will go into effect.

Plan C: (Failed and he went back to Plan B.) After 5 people had categorized the designs, 5 more would vote on whether or not they agreed with each categorization. This didn't work, so he went back to Plan B. When you categorize, you'll still see the left over programming from this plan when you look at the "See Results" link after you have categorized a design, if at least 5 people have done it.

If that doesn't explain things, please ask again. I know this must be terribly confusing.
