I think you need to add Color Lines to the catagory section. As it is...I have been choosing Redwork for lack of a better catagory. They are not a filled designs and nothing else seems to fit these color line designs except for color work. Just a little input.

      Default Categorizing a design

I agree that the animals have way too many, it needs to have like realistic, wild, etc. and yes be careful with the misc. Just my opinion, Mary

Happy Birthday. I hope you have fun and celebrate many more to come. I would love to click on your link, but we no longer get points if the link is clicked on from anywhere in the DBS website or via emails. We need to have access to it via a different forum, myspace, or facebook type link.

I haven't used misc once yet. It is one of those tags that means nothing. You can't find anything if you tag it miscellaneous LOL
I agree that there are a lot of animal names, but maybe once this is finished they'll become sub categories. Either way it's much easier to find a design if it has a sensible name. If you know what I mean. Some designs are called linen, some floral, some flowers. If it looks like a flower then call it a flower. When I'm searching for the hunt designs I think about what I would categorise it as in my stash of designs, mostly I find it, but sometimes it is just under something weird - not easy to find at all. So when I save it, I change the beginning of the name of the design and keep the actual name of the design too for reference. So think about sensible categorising and don't use too many options.

could somebody please explain, I feel completely confused:
+) what's the difference between "Other" and "Miscellaneous"? and between "Kitten" and "Kitty"?
      +) why do some (many) animals appear in singular and plural forms?? (Bear/Bears, Dolphin/Dolphins, Goose/Geese, Hare/Hares, Lemming/Lemmings, Marten/Martens, Murre/Murres, Owl/Owls, Petrel/Petrels, Puffin/Puffins, Squirrel/Squirrels, Tern/Terns, Turtle/Turtles, Whale/Whales)
+) there is a Seal and a SealSea Lion (sic!)
+) and: do zoology and anthropology have to be rewritten, as I find in the Animal Section the following entries: Adult, Baby, Human Female, Human Male, Teenager. Toddler and others. Many of these entries appear again in the Tags Section. ... I'm afraid this way categorizing properly will never work.

I asked him to remove the seat part of the word sea lion. they are different animals. I agree there are too many categories there.
      I would rather see
      Saltwater
      Fresh Water
      North American Wild Animals
      African Animals
      Asian Animals
      Australian Animals
      Sea Mammals
      Artic animals
      Antartic animals
      and categories like that.
      I like Sports.
I would also like to see
      Linens
But Shawn went with what was suggested, so that is what we have to work with.
I also would like to see Human Male and Human Female removed from the Animal category, because I know that I would never look in animals for people.
      Just my opinion

I am assuming you are asking these questions based on English not being your native tongue. Therefore, I will answer from that viewpoint. If that is not the case, maybe this will still help someone who would like some help with the English.

"Other" and "miscellaneous" are the same thing. I don't know why Shawn has some categories that are the same.

"Kitten" and "Kitty" are both "Cat". A kitten is a baby cat.
"Kitty" is just a friendlier word for "Cat". It is such a popular animal, that I could see people searching under just one of the names. So, if it is a cat, I use all 3 categories.

The same would apply to "Dog" and "Puppy". A puppy is a baby dog.

As to the plurals of the animal names, I would also mark both categories. Someone might search under either the singular ("Goose" for example), or the plural ("Geese" for example.

The "Human Female" and the "Human Male" under the animals category is a bit confusing also. If it is obviously a picture of a male or female, and that is the most important thing in the design, I'll mark either the "Human Female" or the "Human Male". If that is not important, I mark "Not an animal." That is totally a judgement call based on personal preferences.

When you get to the general tag, If it is a child that you can't really tell if it is a boy or girl, I mark "children". If it is a design of a baby, or one that would only be used for babies, I mark "baby". If the design obviously fits into another major category - "Sunbonnets" and "sports" for example, I don't mark the tags for the "baby" or "children" or whatever. I am trying to not mark too many tags, but go for what appears the most obvious to me.

This is just my opinion, but I hope it is helpful to someone.

thank you Ann for your extensive explanation. My question however was not so much about slight differences in the meaning of words (although you are perfectly right, English is not my native tongue...), but more because I see the danger that the whole project - with so many people working hard on it - will perhaps mess up in the end because of inaccurate, multiple and somehow excessive tagging...

I do have to admit that fabric is probably my greatest weakness and has been since I was 14 years old. I taught my two daughters to sew and they both also love fabric. We went to a fabric store today and bought a lot of serger thread and regular thread that was on sale. Romans 1212

      Default Do Over Button

you want a "do over" button.
that would be nice, because i think i clicked "applique" for every design in a group and it was suppose to be "fill".

so when you guys see this, ya, it was me and do not throw tomatoes at me please.

I agree, a "do over" button of some sort would be great. However, if we could do that, someone would look at the other selections that someone else did and just change them all to match -- just so they could get a lot of points. I have also made some mistakes. However, since each category has to be listed at least 3 times, it is unlikely that 3 people would make the same mistake. So, there is some checks and balances with the 3 selections that need to match. I just try to do my best and keep my mistakes to a minimum.

Wienerin - I figured my explanation was too extensive for you, as your English is excellent. I have seen some others, though, that I thought it might be helpful for.

It was kind of fun to catagorize the designs, but sometimes its hard to decide just what catagory would be best. Romans1212
