do you have any idea WHY this happened?
This is probably my favorite embroidery program. But a few days ago it took a dump. I mean, suddenly it wouldn't open designs. Said that I had to log on as administrator. Well, I'm running XP and the only one on the computer. But I checked anyhow. Said that if I wanted to log out as adminstrator, that I would have to put somebody else on the machine. Tried my old standby, uninstall, ScanDisk, reinstall. Nope.
Wrote Embird. Got several suggestions from them, none of which worked. But they answered very quickly, which I appreciated.
Did a Repair with my XP disk. Installed Embird first, and same problem. Did a total Recovery, Same problem. I was really pulling my hair out here and at 67 there isn't much to pull out.
Finally got smart. Redownloaded everything and it seems to be fine.
So if anybody else runs into this just redownload and try again FIRST. Don't do everything that I did.
do you have any idea WHY this happened?
Not a clue. BUT no other programs were troubled. And the fact that it was still a problem after a total recovery, tells me it was the program, not the computer. I would think anyhow. Sure messed up the last 2 days and doesn't look any better tomorrow. Horrible to think that I could have fixed it with a new download! Instead of a radical recovery.
What a pain. thanks for your input.

Is this the first time it happened? I was thinking of getting Embird.
I have had similar problems with Buzz Tools, but not Embird. Buzz Tools takes awhile to respond. Nice to hear Embird is prompt!
No settings were changed. It just happened. And I've had Embird for 3 years or longer. NEVER any problem. And my whole point here is that if I had done the new download first, I wouldn't have had all the problem. Really consider it my fault. I've learned over the many years I've been playing computer, that files just corrupt. But usually uninstalling, all the stuff I do before installing a new program, then installing will do the trick.
I don't think it was the computer as I had the same problem after the recovery. I'm not talking roll back the computer to the day before it happened. I believe that's a waste of time in most cases. And don't think it would have done a thing here. I'm talking using my special program to erase the hard drive then reformatting and starting from scratch. And it still did it. That's not the computer, that's the program. But was fine with the new downloaded installer. So I've been searching all my backup stuff for the old saved installer. Marking the cd as bad Embird. And making copies of the new installer.
I strongly suggest Embird. I love the thing. I'm not unhappy with the program here, but with my not doing a new download first. It would have been quicker and easier than the long way around. Program is so easy to use and I can do most things it does. Have lots of super tutorials. But changing colors and size and deleting a part of a design, or adding something to one is so simple here. You can change the stitch order. I do that a lot, cause if possible I don't change colors much on things that I sell. And if I'm not going to change colors, why not do the one color all at one time if it works?
I have Windows Seven and that happened to me. My son is a computer tech and said that Microsoft updated and Embird didn't recongnize the updated info therefore would not work. Thanks Microsoft. Knowing what he was doing, he got embird to recognize the changes.
At least that is what he said it was.

All you have to do is go in as administrator and change the settings with your firewall.
Watermelon..you are missed.
