4D Opening files error

I have been struggling with this 4D issue for a while now and getting desperate.
Usually this software opens any type of file.

I have had files playing peek a poo too.
I have re-downloaded the embroidery files from where they were purchased. They are definitely all there but will not open.

I can view and open in PES lite which is what I use to move embroider files to my sewing machine.

I have a design, that I would like to remove the wording and only use the design, then i use 4D.
Only 4D will not open this design. It does not recognize the file.

What is happening?

Rainagade, can you open and see the file in PES lite? If so, and you can't get 4D to open the file, you might try downloading a program called Wilcom Truesizer http://www.wilcom.com.au/PRODUCTS.aspx/TrueSizer.aspx it is a free program that converts from one format to another.

Download it and try converting to another format and see if 4D will recognize it this way.

You could re-save it as PES using one of the free converting programs (Wilcom Truesizer or Wings My Editor are both good for this) and then your software will probably be able to read it.
More and more I am finding that files are in a newer version than my software can read, and this always works for me.

I didn't know in 4D that you can remove the text. I have it and once something is merged I've never been able to remove parts of a design also it is my understanding you have to have the eof file. I usually just skip the stitch coloring for text in a design if I just want the design. I know in my embird I can separate the colors and delete that way have never tried with someone else's design.

It could be that the pes file is a higher version of pes which 4D software doesn't recognize and therefore will not open.
You could try saving the pes file to a lower version of pes to see if that works and opens in 4D.
I think most of the H/V software only recognizes pes file format up to version 5 pes.

I am still working on this issue.
I went directly to the digitizer and have the files in 2 PES versions. Still nothing can open in 4D.

I downloaded the free Wilcom, and I can open them.
Now my question is, where is the edit tool?

I called the retail store where I purchased my machine and software. After being on the phone with them and being put on hold to they could survey my questions I was asked to bring in my "laptop" so they could help me. I do not have a laptop so I am sure I will get looks when I carry in my computer and monitor......

There might be an issue with compatibility 4D and Win7??
But if this were the case, none of the other files would open either. That is not the case.

I am using these designs for a quilt I am making to sell. Everything is on hold and driving me nuts.

You should be able to 'save as' PES and it will most likely be a version that 4D can read (when it says that the file alread exists, and do you want to over write it either say 'yes' (or re-name it if you aren't convinced that it will work. )- no need to try to edit anything.

This has been so frustrating. I am on the verge of not even using these designs but they are perfect for my quilt.

Can someone not help you convert the files, rainagade? Take out the wording or whatever? Where did you get the design?

From a digitizer at OPW.
Support has worked with me, which I am so thankful for. Changed the designs to another version, still no luck.
They have sent the files back to the digitizer, so I am waiting.

Now with Wilcom, saving the design on my desk top, I still can not open it with 4D.

I am so sorry to hear that, rainagade! Hopefully it will get sorted out.

As a matter of interest, have you tried to reload 4D and see whether that will solve the problem? I sometimes have it with software that it gets corrupted along the way, for some reason or another, and reloading it often solves the problem.

I have 4D and it will give you a lot of Error messages.
