Here are some step-by-step directions on how to make a wish in cut and paste format. I'll still try to scan the forum every week or so and try to post cut and paste format for those who need help. Hope this helps.
Hugs and Smiles, quiltersblock
Quiltersblock did a great job with this, and I (CutiePie) am just going through and adding a different version on how to do things in certain instances or just butting in and adding clarifications. Neither way is "right" or "wrong", just different options. My additions will be in blue.![]()
1. Find the design you want
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page (featuring the design you want) and click on “Vote for design”
OR
On the Design Sets Page look to the right and click on “Vote for a design” next to the design set that has the design you want.
3. Go to the address bar at the top of your web browser. This is where you will see the hypertext transfer protocol or http. This is the address or URL for the page. Click inside the address bar so that your cursor appears in it. The correct URL will have “votedesigns” in it. It is important that you use THIS URL, and not the one you would get by clicking "Vote for this Design" because the second one (which people have mistakenly used in the past) would make anyone who clicked on it automatically vote for that design. That's rude, since most people want to take a look themselves before casting their votes.![]()
4. Do a select all by holding down the control key (CTRL) and the a key (CTRL A) at the same time. Or you can just double-click on the line and it should highlight the whole address for you.
5. Once the address is selected (everything in the address is highlighted), then hold down the control key (CTRL) and the c key (CTRL C) to copy the address or URL. You could also just right-click on your mouse with your cursor over the highlighted address and select "copy" from the quick-menu.
6. Go to the Wishlist section of the Daily Free PES on the Forums page. Click on Reply. If you choose "New Topic" you will be creating a new topic in the Daily Free PES forum, but not within the Wishlish topic.
7. A window will open for you to insert a message. Click inside the message box and then hit Enter a few times to leave yourself some space for adding text above.
8. Do a Paste by holding down the control key (CTRL) and the v key (CTRL V) to paste the web address or URL to the message. You can use the quick-menu (that you get by right-clicking) for pasting, too. This is how people will know where to look for your design request.
9. At the end of this line, hit the Enter key to go to the next line. Type in “req’d by” and your name. This tells everyone who is requesting the design.
10. Use the arrow key on your keyboard that points up to go to the line above the URL you copied and pasted in. Or just move there by using your mouse to move the cursor. Now you are going to tell people what you want.
11. Type in the name of the design as it appears at the top of the design page you wanted - such as Jacobean Butterflies 2 or JN Cars. Basically the name of the entire design set, which is the end portion of the URL you just pasted in.
Add the number of the design you wanted at the end of the Design name such as 4 or 301. I believe it is actually in the best form under the actual design you want. You can copy and paste it from there if you wish. Use a comma or dash to separate the design name and number from the specific information, such as a descriptive note or the actual design name and number given on the design page; you can find this information under the design you want.
Examples would be: flyingjacobeanducks 10, gardenalphal, or JSF01.
You want to be as specific as possible so no one is confused, but you don’t want to overload anyone with information.
Basically you want the info from the title of the page, the number or identifier of the design, then a dash or comma or colon and the name/number that appears under the specific design you want.
Examples are: Satin Stitch Roses #9 - 44ss09,
Jacobean Violets #9 - jbviolets94x4,
RW Ashley Sewing #6 (with kitty) - rwashley06,
Dream Catcher 5x5 #8 - 5x5dreamcatcher08 (Note: 5x5 size), etc. What Screenbags and I started doing originally was the design name (from the page) and a minor description (for instance, "the one with the blue head" for the Jacobean Flying Ducks)
12. Use the arrow key on your keyboard that points up to go to the top of your message and politely ask for what you want.
Leave at least one line between your statement and your actual formatted request so that the person who is doing the copy and paste into the actual list has an easier time of spotting it and copying it. Technically, you don't even have to do this step. Just have the request, URL and req'd by lines and title it "Cut and Paste Wish" and the rest is pretty much obvious.![]()
13. You may choose to sign the request after leaving a space following your actual formatted request.
14. Move your cursor to the subject line. Type “New Wish – cut and paste” or “Amended Wish – cut and paste” so that it is easily spotted. Only put “cut and paste” in the subject line if it is in the correct form to cut and paste. You may wish to add your name to the wish portion of the subject. It might look like Bubba’s New Wish – cut and paste OR Amended Wish for Bubba – cut and paste.
15. Your request in the message body should look like this:
NAME OF DESIGN # - DESIGN IDENTIFIER
URL of vote design page (it will say “votedesigns” within the URL)
“Req’d by” YOUR NAME
The Name of the Design is what appears as the title of the page. The Design Identifier is the name/number below the specific design you want.
Note: You can also simply cut and paste one of the forms – such as your placeholder – from the list, and then cut and paste the URL from the votedesigns page into the area reserved for the URL. Then you only have to type in your name (if it isn’t already there) and the design request, number, and specifics.
Attempting to put it in this format is greatly appreciated. If you have trouble, ask. I or someone else will help you or will put it in the correct format for you. This is a very friendly and helpful group. Yep, basically, if in doubt, just tell us what you want and we can get it worked out for you. We love you, list members!
