Default Hoop size = font size???

      Hello,
I am new to the world of embroidery, in fact I don't even get my machine until Tuesday of next week. It will be a Singer Futura 250. It is like new with all the accessories for a blessed priced of $300.00.

My ? is this. In all the research I have done I have only seen where the 4x4 hoops produce a 1 inch font size and the 5x7 hoops can produce up to a 1 1/2 in font size. WHY so small for the size of the hoop?

There seems to be so much wasted room left that couldbe used for making larger fonts/design sizes.

Can you make bigger sizes within these 2 hoop sizes?
If so can youplease explain to me how it works?

Thanks so mush I look forward to learning from you all.
      Blessings.

LaQuita, first of all, welcome to SiCK!

I am also puzzled by the hoop size and font size. Are these built-in fonts? The only thing I can figure out is that because a font is designed to create text, the smaller font size would produce your final text in a size small enough to fit in the 4x4 hoop. It really shouldn't matter what size font is used as long as the final product fits inside your hoop. (The small 4x4 hoop easily can be turned at a 45* angle to "increase" the available width by embroidering corner to corner rather than edge to edge.)
      Never give up, never surrender.

Yes you can make larger than that size font. This machine has the software built in to enlarge or decrease designs at will.

LaQuita, I have the Futura CE150, and with the built-in fonts, I can do single letters bigger than this. Have you checked the online support for this machine?

      Default singer futura font

      Hi Laquita,
Congradulations on your new singer futura. I have the singer futura 250 also.. I love it. I have had it for 3-4 yrs. I was petrified when I got it in the mail. My husband bought it for me on ebay.. I didnt know the first thing about it. but soon learned that all my fears were not necesary.
On the font size, not sure where you read about the sizes for each hoop, but on this machine, you can make the font as big as the hoop will hold.. And it will let you know, if you go outside the hoop , and you will know to reduce the size. when you download your design or font, just center it in your hoop, and then you can increase or decrease it, for what ever size you want? [ I have done appliqued letters and fonts as big as 5 inches tall...] Hope this helps, and I will be gald to help you in the future, if you need it.
      Hope your having a great weekend.God bless.Judy

Welcome. I don't see why you can't use a font size as large as the hoop you are using. As long as it fits embroider it. I'm sure you can size it prior to stitching it. If it hits the hoop then your machine should have a place you can make it smaller or bigger.

LaQuita welcome to DBS and the world of machine embroidery. I'm sure once you get used to your machine you'll love it as we all do.

Thank you so much for the help! I am so excited that we can make the fonts bigger. I just couldn't understnad why youcoul donly make a 1 in font in the 4 in frame. Or 1 1/2 in font in a 5 inch frame.

We have a grandbaby due in April (our first) so I will have LOTS of embroidering to do for alot less that what we would PAY for them to be done,

I will keep your info and will PM you for help!
      tHANKS SO MUCH!

I sent you a private message if you don't mind. I was wondering where you got such a good deal.
