I have done left and rightI generally rip open the in-seam because the outer seam is flat folded. really, it depends on the design and the manufactor of the pants too. I do a lot of pretties because the knees are gone out on the girls pants.
On which leg does the embroidery go, left or right? On the side seam or more towards the front? Should I embroider on both legs or not?

I agree with you Teddy RN, it's easier to rip out the in-seam and embroider next to the outer seam. unless your doing a border, then you would want to do it around both pant legs.
If the jeans are for me or another female, I like to unsew the rear pocket and put an embroidery on just one pocket, usually something that matches or enhances what is embroidered on the leg.

I don't have to rip out anything - I am making the jeans myself!
Thanks for the replies. It seems that I can do whatever I wish, there is not standard.
You're right Sonia, it probably depends a lot on the design you choose. I have seen jeans with the same design up the outside seam of each leg / a different design on each leg / a design on one leg only / a design down the front of one leg/ designs across the butt!
You could print out the design/designs you choose onto paper and then cut them out and play around untill it feels right![]()
I just found out the the leg is about 6" too long - talk about stupidity!
Well, I just wasted some fabric - i had to cut it!
I have found a design and I am now doing the first leg - hopefully it will turn out OK!
You reminded me about the hat, Moto, I should be making one!
I love embroidery on jeans however not fond of ME across the butt! The girls around here do not look very nice with it.
Our school is very strict on what the kids, especially girls, can wear. Since I make most of their clothes I want them to be able to wear not matter what. They are told to dress like they would to church; it is a Christian school.

I hate the pockets on the butt, so there won't be any embroidery there. I am doing both legs, a single design, not a border. I will post pictures later.
I look forward to seeing your finished jeans. Oh the hat is cool - but don't forget to embroider a matching vest!!

tndenim, a matching vest at this point is not on my to-do list. I don't want to think how I will sew that together, as I cannot even do pants properly anymore. I will probably sew the facings or lining the wrong way round and upside down LOL!
teddy_rn, I don't have the time to embroider from waist to toe - maybe next time!
I have used the Damask Sparrow corner design from Embroidery Library and did the embroidery on the front panel, next to the sideseam. I used the same colour thread for the embroidery as I used for the topstitching. The denim is not black, but a very dark blue.
Nice choice of design. Hope you will be wearing your pants very soon.
Thanks, TurtleOwl! I made it for my vacation next month.
awsome job on your jeans Sonia!!

Thanks, Deborah! I will try and take a photograph of the jeans standing in front of the mirror in the morning.
Awsome job Sonia! - you got it right in the end, and that's what counts! That's a beautiful design, (I don't think I have anything from that set yet) - I will bear it in mind next time they have a 'happy hour'![]()
Sonia, like the design on the jeans. You did another outstanding job.
