I like to only hoop the stabilizer as well. I haven't basted the fabric to it only pinned it. I am pretty sure your way is a lot better!! Surprise, surprise. lol. I find the hoop too bulky to close tightly with the material inside. I thought it was just me.

The pins work OK, but I find I usually end up with more pins in my sleeves and hands than what is left on the hoop LOL! The basting is better, as you are definitely not pinning every single centimetre - well I did not!

No I don't pin everywhere. I am so afraid the needle will catch one while embroidering. I try to keep them as close to the edge of the hoop as I can. The basting will be better on all accounts.

I digitize a basting stitch around my design when I do scenes, otherwise I baste around the frame.

Yup, I'm going to try that! It sounds like a plan to me. LOL.

Sonia, I am still trying to learn how to sew as well. I would like to do something that I can practice both my sewing and embroidery skills. Nothing too difficult but a bit of a challenge. I may try that dinner roll cozy that NanaJ found the pattern I was looking for. It looks pretty easy and the challenge would be to put the embroidery in each pocket. I am guessing I would do that before sewing everything together....but as I said I'm guessing!

The pattern looks easy enough and I am sure you will get it right!

Yes, it looks pretty easy. I was thinking about changing the edge to make it scalloped satin stitch instead of using binding. Of course I always have to make things more complicated. lol.

Will you do that with the sewing machine or with the embroidery unit?

I thought I would use the sewing machine. It has that as one of the built in patterns.

That would look nice - I am not too fond of binding myself!

I find EL designs are very heavy ( or a lot of stitches in them) so I somethimes streach them a little when in my embroidery machine so no more stitches are added to them , do a test before u sew the design out.
