I broke every nail on both my hand because of the fabric drying them out. And the fact that I have thyroid problem is not helping ether. I notice when i do a lot of handling fabric from cutting out patterns to sewing it dose it. I love the med-line stuff just have to get a scrip for that's the only bad thing. the ones i have here were samples from the med-line guy that go to the VA and hand out the sample to the doctors there and nurses too.
I use Vaseline Intesive care for my hands. I do a lot of crafts stuff at home and yard work and my hands are always dry and that helps. And it's not to expensive either. I to spend a lot of time in a labe where we tested food service equipment and I spent a lot of time hand washing dishes and test stuff. It worked well back then too!
Best I found is Curel hand and cuticle lotion or Udder Cream. You can also use the new dawn dish liquid with olay in it whenever you wash your hands. It is wonderful. Another secret..when you soak your feet use the dawn dish liquid with Olay in your water and your feet will feel smooth and heavenly as well.
Ginny.... we need to hear from you.
Watermelon..you are missed.
Tracy...where are you.
Thank you tndenim ans winstar too for the great tips I would have never though of socking to feet in dawn before now. my feet are so dry that they are cracking and it hurts to walk on one because of it. I live in a very dry clement any how the humidity today was 11 and the dew point was 6. Come one warmer weather so that the air is not so dry.
I am going to try the dawn that's for sure.
The lotion I love is called Body Drench. I got some from a friend as a going away present when I left the South for drier climes. When I ran out, I was sooo sad. DH went on the internet and ordered me quite a supply. Don't know where he found it, probably did a google search. Just about out now, so I'll have to do the same.
For really dry and cracked hands and feed, I have found Burt's Bees Res-Q ointment works well, It has comfrey in it and is very soothing. Neither are too expensive.
I have rosacea (a dry skin condition) and the dermatologist recommended vasoline at night. When I use it everynight I have no problems. It is VERY cheap too. You can also use it on your feet at night just put socks on over it to keep it off your sheets.
I have to wash my hands almost every 15 min. when I am at work and that will dry them out pretty fast. I look for a skin protectant that contains dimethicone and apply it to my hands at the start of the day to keep my hands from drying out too much. Silicone glove by Avon I think is one of them. Put it on and let it dry on and then it will help keep the moisture in your hands throughout the day. Moisterize occaisionally and drink your water to keep your skin hydrated.
To dry hands is the best olive oil at night and put on cotton gloves, I have great experience with hand cream brand Neutrogena.J.
This will sound nuts but, find some udder salve- what they use for milking cows. It's the absolute best. Vasoline is second. Then use the gloves and/or socks.
