Not been here for a few days....here is why

My mom has been critically ill in the ICU.....
She went in Thurs, breathing was very poor so the put her on a vent....tried to take her off Fri but she could not get breathing under control.
Sat they took vent tube out, but she wan't doing too well on her own, so the put her on a bi PAP machine to force air into her lungs.
My mom is still I ICU but doing much better...
Yesterday, while I was there, she asked to take off the bi PAP mask.....nurses were skeptical that she would maintain her oxygen levels without it...but I all but insisted that they try ....
Mom did well, breathing is still rather shallow, but with nasal oxygen she was maintaining oxygen levels at 98-100...whis is great!!!!
I am getting ready to head back up for a few hours......
I would so appreciate all your thoughts and prayers!!

I will add your mother to my prayers. It is better you be at the hospital with your mom. My daughter stayed with me the last time I went in because the time before they seemed to have forgotten me. I was there for over a week and I couldn't even get someone to bring me a popcycle. Patients need someone to be their voice and make sure things get done. But make sure you get plenty of rest at night. You don't need to get yourself sick.

Oh Kathy - I'm sorry to hear that mom has been so ill. But it is great that she has so significantly improved!!!! I'll say a prayer for her recovery. God Bless you both.

Kathy, I am praying for you and your mom. I'm glad to hear that she is healing and that you have been able to take a break. It is a blessing when family can help by being there during a hospital stay. As Teddie_rn and the other nurses on this site can tell you, the hospital staff is usually working at their full capacity and simply cannot possibly be at each bedside often enough. Believe me, the staff is as grateful that you were able to come as your mom was.
