      Default Q about Applique Alphabet

I LOVE the look of the Applique Alphabet but how is it done? I have a Brother sew/emb machine and can do any of the stitched fonts but this one has the fabric in the middle. Is the fabric just cut away on the outer edges with fine point scissors? Thanks in advance!

When you do an applique design you put your fabric down on the stablizer and do the first color. This is the outline of your applique and then you take your hoop off NOT the design out of the hoop!!! Trim around the stitching line close to the stitches then put your hoop back on and finish stitching. Done! Good Luck! Joyce

I also have a pair of applique scissors and I would recommend scissors of this sort because they are beveled and curved in such a manner that it is very easy to get extremely close to the stitching without as much danger of cutting the stitching when you are cutting away excess fabric. Here is a link where you can see the pair I have http://www.beaconfabric.com/vindex.html?cat47.htm

yes, it's made for the embroidery machine, and yes, you have a tack down stitch for your letters and then just trim as close as you can then put back on machine and run the satin stitch.

Ok so step by step- put fabric + stabilizer in hoop and run first set ot stitches then remove hoop from machine (not fabric out of hoop) trim fabric close to stitch then put back on machine and it will do the stitching again for the finished look? I am scarrrreeedd! lol! Think I just need to jump in and give it a go Thanks for all your help!

Hi, I know the feeling, I wanted to learn to do the applique so bad.But was scared to death of it.Ha, I procrastinated for 6 months, before giving it a try..It is easy.I promise.. If I can learn to do it, anyone can.Ha
      Easy Directions:
1- Put you stablizer and fabric you want to appliqe in the hoop [just as you would for any embroidery design]
2- Look at your steps on your embroidery design. Most of them show 3 steps.. The first step is just outlining your design [in this case an alphabet].Run this step.It will show you where to place your fabric .[that will be on the inside of the letter.]
4- once this step is done, cut you a scrap of fabric for inside of your letter ,be sure it is a little bigger than the letter. Place the fabric on the stitching you just did.
5- The second step ,will be like a zig zag step.. do it.
6- Once you finish this. take hoop off your machine..Do NOT UNDO the hooped fabric.Leave it hooped. Use small embroidery scissors and cut as close to the stitching line as you can. [this will get easier and easier as you do more designs]Once you have cut away all the excess fabric from your letter. Put hoop back in machine.
7- Now, you are ready for your last step. which is finishing your alphabet letter..
NOTE: if you decide to do other appliques.. You just use this same techinique for each step..
Hope this helps.. and you have fun,fun ,fun with appliue..God bless.Judy
