Gets even better, jstitch. There is a water class sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation. It meets late mornings on Tu and Th. I'll ask the neurologist if it is appropriate for me.

Like I said before the "program" if you want to call it that, that I am using just makes sense to me. I can eat anything I want I just need to listen to my body and stop when I am starting to feel full. Its not a quick loss by any means but it seems like its something I can stick to. I am a MAJOR stress/boredom eater. So this has really made a difference for me. I actually have been stopping and thinking before I stuff food in my face. I think the most important thing is finding something you can stick to and make a life style and saying I cant have this and I cant have that just doesnt work for me ! lol I need to add some exercise to it and that should make a difference too.

I've been in bed for 2 years with a broken leg. 4 operations to fix the leg. I broke both bones in my leg and my ankle. Since I couldn't walk at all I've gained over 58 lbs. I need to loose it.

I also have a rear disese that only 1 in 100,000 get. CIDP. Big long name. Any way I have a hard time walking because my feet have great pain. My imune system is eating the coating around the nerve endings causing constant great pain. It will eventually go to my legs and up then hands, arms etc. I am on heavy drugs (morphine) plus depression drugs that put weight on. I need all the encouragement I can get to loose this weight.

I certainly would like to join you in loosing weight. We can do it together.

My weight goes up and down daily due to pitted edema....I can change as much as 30lbs in a day....my lowest is 125lb and my highest was 172lb and my height is 5'3". I quit smoking just prior to christmas and have had a few cravings, much not too many and not so bad at all...food however...is now my release for just about everything else...I weighted myself in at 155lb this morning, but this evening it is up to 161lb.
I do need to loose weight as it would be impossible not to eat everything and not be as active as i want to be, so the weight must be packing on...
Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me out.

I too suffer from edema. A lot of that is a side effect from the diabetic drugs. I took one type and it cuased my legs to sweel so much it hurt to walk. since that time - I've had some serious problems with edema. and of course that mean water pills and that can mean low potassium as well which I have to keep monitored. It goes on and on. And yes - I've been working on lossing weight as well. I don't check every week. I check when I go to the doctors office. He says it's less stressful that way. But I can tell but the fit of my clothes that I'm loosing, and to me - that's the best way to know for sure.

I may even have to go down a size - woohoo!

My edema came out of nowhere about 7 years ago...it started in my hands and then would go down...i figured no biggie....but then it spread to my legs and my face, and everywhere else and now it does not go away at all, it just goes down some. They have told me, lupus, RA, addisons and other but none of them really dont know. The water pills contain sulfur which I am allergic too...so I take them for so long and then stop when it gets too much...and then theres pills for the high cpk levels and ones for the low cortisol levels, then there are ones for blood pressure, and then the wide spread pain the sometimes just lays me out flat for days...
ahhhhhhhh life, such a wonderful thing!

Yikes! How did I miss this thread? Guess I'm still catching up after the nasty computer attack.

Congrats y'all and I really need to join in the weight loss program. I need to get rid of at least 30 pounds. Yikes! It's been slowly creeping up on me the last five years to the point....it's time to do 'something'!
They say...who ever 'they' are that two pounds a week is a good amount. Let's see if that's the case, in 15 weeks I could be 30 pound lighter. Heck, I'd be happy for one pound a week.

Angi I must check out your method. Congrats on the 10 pounds!!

I'm with you watermellon! It's time to do something! I lost 30 lbsbefore my DIL got sick and my life went spiraling out of control. The first year after I was able to maintain, but the last year I have gained 12 back.
I have had an ankle replacement and in the past 14 or so mo. I have had my foot break twice. My knees are so bad that a cortisone shot won't work any more and so I can't walk very far, and so all I have is my excercize bike that has been in storage. I am going to have to get my husband to get it out for me.
My Dr. said the slower you lose the weight the better chance you have of keeping it off,so be slow!!!!
Congratulations allof you that have lost allready!!! I'm coming on board but I am going to be slow!!!I weighed in the last time I went to the DR at 212. My goal is at least 30 off. Good for you Mrs. Buckeye!!!!! You started a good thing! Joyce

Well I will try to lose some more weight. Last may 1at, when I was diagnosed with Diabetes, I weighed about 190Lbs. I am now down to 150lbs. My doctor told me I need to lose 8 more lbs and then my BMI will be at 25 which is perfect. It is currently 25.3.
I have learned to stay away from sugar, purchase things made with splenda, watch my portion sizes, buy small packages of chips. eat sugar free yogurt, eat sugar free candies, In the summer I ate lots of fruit and vegtables. I do not drink any fruit juice.
Sometimes it is very hard as my husband has Hyperglocemia, so he needs all the sugar that I don't.

Congratuations, Imtaylor. I cannot express how happy and proud I am for you!! Keep up the good choices in life.

I have continued to work out 3-4 times a week. So far, the results haven't shown on the scale but my physical therapist noticed enough change that he asked me how much weight I had lost so I know I'm heading in the right direction. GRRRRRR! Darn medication.........

Slowly, slowly catchee monkey. I had a total hip replacement 16 months ago and my surgeon remarked you will gain more weight. i was sick of the weight I had gained over the last 20 years. i would lose it and then it would come back again, but the struggle continued with the cortisone injections and other medication i was on at the time, also coping with Kent's ill health, he needed high calorific food, so I was on a hiding to nothing, with meals at erratic times, working late at night and rushing out to get to Court in the morning. I became a snacker to keep the hunger pangs at bay. I used to play, hockey, swim and run, these I haven't done for nearly 14 years, apart from the recreational swimming while on holidays. My neighbour two doors up, wanted to shed weight also. We started gentle walking every second evening during Summer. i was able to leave Kent, as he was working full time and he would snooze for this time so I got out of the house. We got fitter, but didn't lose weight, we do lose inches though. muscles were being rebuilt. I have lost 28lbs in 14 months, modified my eating, i still enjoy the forbidden things, but do not eat a full block of chocolate on the train home. As I have semi retired and spending more time at home I am so disciplined. i have dropped form a size 20 to a size 16/18 and have lost a few love handles, my fitness level has gone up. I have never smoked , colas do not interest me, so water and tea are my drinks of choice, with the occasional glass of wine when out in company. Brian was so overweight, he said his problem he would comfort eat and when he met me, he said he had a reason to shed the weight. After he moved in with me, I took his diet in hand. he still has his full English breakfast every morning, but cooked the Weight Watchers way and I have him a points system. i give him the choice, if he wants a biscuit (cookie) I tell him the point value and the decision is his. When we went out shopping on Sunday we went to the Cadbury chocolate shop, we both walked, looked around, and walked out without buying anything. Even when we eat out, Brian counts the points and orders accordingly. he says he is never hungry and if he gets the urge to nibble, he has fruit. I want to lose another 28lbs and know it will take me another 12 months at least, I am happy with this, as I know, if I take it off slowly, it will stay off. Oh I make all my own food, nothing out of tins or packets and I make my own yoghurt. the other thing, we do not eat bread at all. No more indigestion for Brian. I do make cakes, but use gluten free flour and no-one knows the difference. I do use fruit sugar for all things requiring sweetener. I have an allergy to aspartame (sp) and I cannot go cold turkey, but where I had two teaspoons of sugar, I have half a teaspoon these days. I also use semi skimmed milk. This working for both of us and neither of us are ever hungry. Eat like a king in the morning, dine like Prince at lunch and in the evening eat like a pauper. Before I forget, we do not eat cereals except for a whatever is required in a recipe.

Phillipa I noticed you use gluten free flour in your recipes. Could you share some of your cake recipes that you have mentioned in other threads, carrot cake for example. I have Celiacs and can't have any gluten. I am always looking for good recipes that are easy and good. I don't eat much bread but when I do I make my own. It is very hard to find good gluten free breads in the stores. There are not very many stores close to where I live that carry a lot of gluten free products. So if you have any good tips I would appreciate them.

NannaJ I use a product that is made from a blend of gluten and wheat free ingrediants. It is blend of rice, maize. Potato, tapioca and Sarusin it is milled by Doves Farm over here. you do need to experiment when substituting flour. You need to use more liquid. I use ordinary recipes and adjust the liquid used.

I don't think twice when I use it and the cakes turn out really well. it was hit and miss in the beginning, but over time, the recipes are like they were before. I know this is not much help to you. I also use this flour to make my own unleavened bread and tortillas. I will write out some recipes for you and post them in this thread. You will have rember the measurers over here are different to the measures used in the States.
