ummmm, I have only been doing embroidery/quilting for about 2 months now so I can only hope that my addiction does NOT wear off.... I am loving it.

I just need a better embroidery machine, my Brother SE270D is crap!!!! But my fantastic hubby told me to tell him what I want and just maybe.... I will get it for my birthday in May. Now trying to figure out a great machine, one he can afford and one that I will love ..... help - please!

      Hi horse rescue,

Glad to hear you are enjoying your embroidering, it is catching alright. I own a pfaaf 2124 the cheapest of the line, and it is very good. I have been told by the sewing place that there are less hiccups with a pfaaf than any other machine. Maybe he is saying that for more business, I don't know. i have had a few hiccups with it, but when it gets wound up, no stopping the great job it does. Hope it helps. Perhaps others can tell you of their machines so you can decide. Cheers Shirley

What ever machine you end up with, horse rescue, be sure that service and support are available to you. You don't want to have to send away your machine for minor tune-ups. Ask about classes or other types of support you can expect to receive.
      Never give up, never surrender.

horse rescue, Hi, don't worry, embroidery addiction does not wear off. I've had mine since January 2006 and I didn't get to use it for almost 2 years because I broke my leg and had 3 operations so I couldn't put my foot down to sew. So I stayed in bed on the computer collecting designs. I have 10 discs with over 4,000 on each disc, I have 2 discs with designs I purchased, and 1 disc with all of DBS designs (I'm a paid member) and 1 disc with all of Your Embroidery Designs (I'm a paid member there too) So I would guess I have about 70,000 different designs. So see it doesn't wear off. LOL

Now I'm enjoying using those designs. I'm in my sewing room at 5:30am almost every day. And I don't leave it until 8 or 9 at night. I don't usually do this, but I'm getting ready for a quilt show.

Horse Rescue: My first machine was a Brother 270D. I don't think it's "crap." Anytime one begins a new hobby there are always ins and outs to learn. Remember, 2 months isn't a very long time. Don't get discouraged. I don't mind it and still use it for small projects. I now have a Brother 750 and I love it. Easier to thread and takes a 5x7, plus the 4x4 hoop. My PED Basic can be used on both machines. Since my 750 has a larger memory I just put my designs on it then use the 250 for my 4x4 projects at the same time. Many days both machines are running and I'm sewing on my Brother sewing machine. The dealer I bought mine from also sells Pfaff and I think they are really good machines but are more expensive than brother. It's just a matter of going in and spending time with whatever you feel you are going to change to. Get to know it and ask LOTS of questions. My service guy is a gem. He loves to teach and any time I "pick" his brain he is always willing to help. He also has a very quick turnover time on repairs (mostly adjustments) too. That is very important in whatever machine you buy. Good luck and happy sewing

OH, I am such an embroidery addict. It is so ahrd to not buy designs and projects..for that "someday" project especially. I love viewing designs and so appreciate all the talented designers. I am so lazy, LOL, that I am thrilled to buy designs and use the time to sew instead of design! I have done some things, but there are so many other ideas out there. I now keep an accurate list of designs used, and who and what for! I am trying to organize all my designs, but keep changing my mind on the best way to do it!! UGH !! HELP! I am hooked and can't stop! hee hee

Hi sewlace, I quite understand, I double up ocassionally with the sick designs. I use my husband's paypal account so I don't have direct accesss to the designs I purchase, for example I bought the other day during happy hour applique penguins, and found out a couple of days later that I had already bought them. Talk about being brain dead.

I have always been meaning to get myself organised with the designs, but so far am too busy doing my embroidering to bother. I have just given up. Have a nice afternoon. Cheers Shirley

      Hi sewlace,

I agree. What I have started to do is take the time as I get the freebies to put them under headings for example anything to with the kitchen, I call the folder kitchen, flowers, outdoors etc. I think this might work, it is a big ask, but I am going to try this for awhile and see if I can get some order into my designs, they are just one big muddle at the moment. Takes me forevever to locate a pattern when I need it. I have been lumping all of the designs under one heading and then when I think I have enough burning them off onto a disc and then renaming another folder. That DOES NOT WORK. Cheers Shirley

Hi dollyj, No you are definitely not losing it. I think I should, instead of spending most of my time embroidering, maybe get some system going to get my designs sorted out. As someone has said today, HELP ANYONE HEE HEE. Cheers Shirley

I am with you guys on the trying to keep things organised. I had a great system once where I had all of my designs in folders on an external hard drive but then I accidently formatted it.

      Hi Embroidery65,

You should still be awake. Most of the time the ladies are going to bed, but I noticed you live in Australia. I live in Brisbane. I sympathise with you about your system. I know exactly how it is. I am still trying to sort myself out. If things go wrong with my computer I blame my husband ...... can't blame me hee hee.

Hope you get it sorted out eventually,

      Cheers Shirley

      Hi Ossie,
I was wondering about your name when I saw it on the forum, I was not on line last night unfortunately. I try to spend the evenings with my husband. Fortunately I did have all of my bought of my designs saved to cds when I formatted my external drive, and I had uploaded my own designs to my website so they were all safe. but I am very good formatting my computer and then realising I had deleted something important.
where are you from? I am in Victoria Point Brisbane.
      Alice.

Hi embroidery65. It is indeed a small world. I am at Chermside the other side of town. I have just come onto the internet and got your email. Thanks for sending back a reply. Yes the name is after our surname. When my husband opened up an account with sick, we could not think of a name so he said why not use my nickname, and whulla there it is. Lovely day today after all that beautiful rain, a lot of damage caused though. Hope you pulled through o'kay. Ossie is always doing something to the computers and at times not too frequently now but before he has lost a lot of my designs. I am so disorganised, I keep telling myself to get my designs in some sort of order, but too busy either downloading the freebies or embroidering or housework etc. Hope you have a lovely day. Cheers Shirley

Hi Everyone. Basically this is for all the Aussies who visit the forum. I had ordered a piece of plastic canvas from Catteots Cross Stitch. It did not arrive. The lady (Patti) was marvellous. She is sending me another piece at no cost to me. I told her I would put her name and address up on the forum for all the Aussies to have a look at if they wish to. Her address is catteots.com.au. She is going to have a lot soon like small latch hook kits and more embroidery stuff. I hope everyone visits her and when she has her site up and running I will ask her to let me know and I will put it up. Not too many people nowadays would be that obliging. I found the plastic canvas via ebay to her. Cheers Shirley
