      Smile New to Embroidery

I bought a small machine it is a pfaff 300smart machine it only embroiders no sewing I have two sewing machines already. I can easily see that you can get addicted. I want to start a small business but this machine wont do that but I am learning on it I have trouble figuring out what backing to use on what material right now I dont yet understand it yet. I want to take quilting lessons and machine embroidery lessons on line as I live WAY out in the country.Funds are limited (surprise lol) so I am trying to find all the free lessons I can on the net. Everyday like you all I scan for free designs and lessons. It is SO MUCH FUN. I am loving it!

Welcome to DBS, Maggie. You have a great plan to learn how to properly do embroidery before starting a business. The SiCK forums are a wonderful place to pick up pointers and share your successes and failures. Feel free to ask questions to avoid some of the same failures that many of us here now know how to avoid.

One of our favorite sites for help--and designs--is Embroidery Library. They have some wonderful tutorials. I have attached their link to for suggested stabilizers below. Please keep us up-to-date on your progress.

Welcome, Maggie. Glad you found DBS. La cole is right--this is a great place to come and learn. Ask questions whenever you have them. Someone here is sure to know the answer or where to find it. Also, those of us newbies learn from the questions of others as well. When I joined almost a year ago (has it really been that long??!!!!), I didn't know anything at all about machine embroidery. Thanks to all of the wonderful people here, I have learned many things. Still not as proficient as I would like to be, but it will come. Glad your here!

Never fear expanding anf trying new stuff it is so much fun. Stablizer can make all the difference. Do try a new design on a test as some just will not stitch out. so test your design first on a practice piece. Lots of good designs out there.

Well things are going a bit better, I am learning. I will make some scarfs and such and see how it goes. I find a lot of the designs have too many color changes. I dont know the colors yet. All in all though, I thank you for the warm welcome and if I acrually finish something good I will post it. ha ha ha
