      Default Best Buy?

Anybody have anything good to say about this company? The first time I walked into a store, I didn't like it. The decor or what ever turned me off big time. Well, have gone back a few times for software, that's all. Would not but anything important there. Not so my best friends. They bought several computers there. Last one for their home down here. I told them to go to Wal-Mart. Get the same computer for less. NOT them. So they over paid, then paid another $300 for 3 more years warranty.

Vista. Had nothing but trouble with it. Took it in a few weeks ago. Tech guy did something while they were standing there and it was good to go. Same thing happened and they took it back. Was told it would be ready on the 16th. Nope, still checking the system. Two weeks to check the system?

Finally went in today to pick it up and take it somewhere else. "Software problem. We'll reinstall Vista and do that one download you were having problems with for $130.00." No thanks, we'll buy a new one.

Get to the computers, picked one out and gosh, it's not in stock. Then they start telling them how they needed to do some work to the one they picked out and it would take 2 days and cost another $50. DUH. It's a new computer. What's to do to it? Well, we have to take out the things you're not going to use so it will run faster. For fifty bucks I can do that. Well, the sales people double teamed on them and she kept calling me. Asking if we could do this and that. Finally they had enough and went to Wal-Mart. Got a nice setup. She calls back. "Do you think I should do the 2 years warrant for $70/" Heck of a lot better than the other place and you don't have to go there to get it fixed.

I hate it when a company tries to takes advantage of older people. And if it hadn't been that I have been downing BB for years, they probably would have done it for the 4th or 5th time.

I needed to get that off my chest.

I'm glad you were and are there for your friend. I'm all about Wal-Mart and NOT a fan of BB either! Total agreement there.

My uncle is one that if it costs more it must be better! WhatEVER!! Sounds dumb to pay the extra for something like this and the extra coverage.

Again, how wonderful that you are a GREAT and supportive friend. I really wish she would have listened to you to start with.

I haven't had any trouble, in fact very good service from Best Buy. Guess it all depends on the people working there and the management. That being said, why pay more for the same item. I go where I can keep more of my money!! Dreama

I've had a lot of good success with Best Buy. Good computers with good prices. And trust me - I compared prices. And I've had great service from them as well. I live about 60 some miles from Nashville - and they came out for a service call to replace a defective CD drive. Free of charge under the extended warranty.

Can't say the same thing about the Walmarts here. I don't evn shop in them unless I have no choice.

My son does all his electronics at Best Buy now that Circuit City is gone. He won't buy movies or anything like that anywhere else. My sister just bought a Toshiba laptop at walmart and I told her to get the 2 year warranty that was only 59.95 and it was way less than my Toshiba cost from Office Depot with the 2 year warranty.

I think it depends on the knowledge the clerk has. If they don't know much you can't expect much from them. Also being on commission may play into what they try to sell you as well.So no matter where you shop be certain what you want, ask as many questions as you like because you have to be satisfied. It is your money

I agree on what the clerks and repair people know. HOWEVER, the manager also plays a roll in this. The store in Daytona is the reason I don't like the company. And that's where the problem was this time. Friends tell me that they are going to take the same computer to the store in Ft. Wayne, IN, where they know the manager, and see what happens before they write their letter to the home office. However their buying days at BB are over. They've had enough.
