Angie, So sorry to hear your laptop died guess it is all those freebies. Glad you backed up some of your things don't think we ever truly back up all we need to. Hope you are up and running soon.
Sigh..my laptop crashed last night. The good news is I had backed up my designs about 3 weeks ago. The bad news is I lost pretty much everything else. All of Justins E mails from Afghanistan. Addresses cricut files.
Oh well... its not that horrible I just wanted to let you all know cause I might not be on much til next week. I am going to get a new laptop but I have a lot of stuff I have to set up.
Soooo I will be here when I can![]()
everyone take care.

what a bummer angi
Hope you get a good bargain on a new laptop, is there no way you can just reboot your existing one or get it fixed. A husband and wife came into work the other day, the are computer techs. It is now cheaper to buy parts etc than buy a new laptop whereas before it was cheaper just to buy a new one. Dont let someone tell you your laptop is kaboooom till you know for definate.![]()
OH Angie! Justin's e-mailsAre they still in the e-mail file on-line? I made a special file in my e-mail account for special things that I know I will otherwise loose! Not to harp but this is why I paid the money for Carbinite a couple of weeks ago (my daughter had the same issues as you do and this inspired me). Now if "Lappy" dies I am ok info wise.
Hugs and prayers for strength and piece of mind until you are up and running again.

Wait until Black Friday. There's bound to be one somewhere cheap and good.
Black Friday ??I didnt hear anything....is it just US?
Angi, say it isn't so, Computers are our best friends and in the same breath our worst enemies. My heart goes out to you as the princess of computer mess ups I feel your pain. HUGZ and love to you !

I have never heard of carbinite, but after my last fiasco with my designs and all .I started emailing everything to myself and keeping files on yahoo. All my important emails are there. I know Angi communicated to Justin via facebook and I think they keep things on their server for ages so hopefully those things won't be lost. I am going to look into the service you mention teddy. I have for years donwloaded everything to CDs but that isn't foolproof either. Sometimes they get scratched and you can't open them.

I am pasting in something that Quiltsilly wrote, this will explain EVERYTHING!!
Honestly, I believe that my files are much more secure and far less apt to be hacked on the Carbonite server than they are on my own computer. (and I'm very good about my computer's security)
For the average home user, your computer is vulnerable as soon as it connects to the internet or has a portable device plugged into it that has been used on another computer.
Your privacy is compromised every time you put information about yourself on the internet, by email or by writing on forums like this, by participating in social networking sites like myspace or facebook.
We're so lax about this - we guard our bank account numbers, but we tell perfect strangers (and those in far distant generations, even!) about our health problems, marital troubles, addiction, financial situation, etc. It's so easy to put together a little scrap of info from here and a little scrap from there and on and on... and you can get a very clear intimate picture of someone's life.
My privacy of personal information is far more compromised by what I, myself, have thrown out there to the world than it will ever be on Carbonite. Not even Carbonite can decrypt the files I've put up there.
But, if (God forbid!) I have a fire or flood and my computer and all my backups are destroyed, the files that are important to me are not lost forever. It's cheap insurance, and like I said, they are much safer on Carbonite than they are here on my computer.
I'm not at all affiliated with Carbonite and I don't get a referral fee from them - I just appreciate a service that does what it's supposed to do without any fuss.

Angi so sorry you lost Justin's emails. I hope they can be recovered.
Computers can be our best friends, but boy howdy they can also become our worst enemies in a flash...sigh. I'm wondering what's going on lately. Seems lots of us are having problems with crashes, internet connection, software, etc. Our connection has been giving us fits last few days, and it's making me terribly cranky.![]()
So sorry to hear that.
If you paid for the Cricut files...wouldn't you be able to get them off the disc again? (sorry if I am being naive, I don't own one...just have a friend who buys hers).
Hopefully you will be able to recover your data.
My husband was able to take the data from my crashed computer drive and put it onto my new machine. He said that his IT department does it at his work so it can be done, you just might have to pay to have someone to extract the data.
Hope it helps. (maybe you could get a quote)

Good to see you back, Angi. Did you end up having to format the drive? If not, I might be able to help you get some of it back. I switched to using Gmail years ago after Yahoo and Hotmail both deleted all my emails (said I hadn't logged on in 30 days on Hotmail, 90 on Yahoo) and Gmail won't do that to you. You might want to consider adding a second hard drive. Use the main one for C: and the second for your data (still back it up often). That way, if you do have to format and restore the OS, your data is safe and sound on the other drive. On laptops, you can use an external USB drive for your storage, as laptop drives are notorious for dying sooner than desktop ones. I'm rambling, message me if you need anything, k?
Red rover, red rover, send more designs right over!
Angi sorry you lost your emails from Justin,He will just have to send you some more.
Glad to see you back
Enjoy Ria
Angi...Sorry about your crash, have you tried to see if a computer tech can recover anything off your hard drive. Good to see yu're back up and running.
Oh, Angi. How sadthat you lost so much in the crash. I would be willing to pay a lot to have a tech attempt recovery off my drive before calling it quits. I hope you can salvage some of your data.
Never give up, never surrender.
