      Default How to proceed?

I've never quilted before. This is what I did, it's only the top layer. I don't know how to proceed. I do have light weight batting and fabric for the back. It's going to be a wall hanging (or a waste bin project )

BEAUTIFUL! If it was my work and a wall hanging I would NOT use a batting, just a backing. You can put it together by stitching in the seams or 'outlining' the seams or doing quilt designs from DBS in the 3 center blocks. that too is personal preferance. Hope that some of this helped.

OOOHH! That's nice. It would make a lovely table runner!.I'm curious Teddy, why would you not quilt it with a batting? I would birth it and not put a binding on it as it looks too pretty already. To birth a quilt just take the top and bottom right sides together and layer the batting on top. I iron the 3 layers, the stitch 1/2 " from the edge all the way around leaving an opening large enough to turn the whole thing right side out and then iron smooth again. pin baste it altoghether and quilt.

      This is beautiful!
Each to his own, I would use a lightweight batting, something very thin. First, cut the backing and the batting slightly larger than the top piece. Pin it securely together. Then, starting at the middle, quilt it. Quilting just means attaching the 3 layers together with stitching. There are many ways to do it. In the ditch means sewing along the seams, and it is the easiest IMHO. You could also add a little quilted design in the lighter squares. However you do it, the purpose is just to keep the 3 layers from shifting. When you are done, there are several ways to bind it on the edge. I'm sure you can google much better directions than I could give you here.

My rational was that I didn't want the extra weight hanging on the wall because one time I did add batting and it gapped in the center. Might not have had proper support for the hanger though. Hum, think I just solved my own problem amazing how brain storming works like that

      Thank you so much ladies
I think I'll go with oldhag and birth it. Never heard of that before but I think it's the easiest way (maybe I'm wrong there). When I'm not so scared of ruining my projects anymore I can try quilting the way grannyof9 described.
I will quilt in the ditch and might use one of the quilt block doodles from DBS in the center blocks.

Great idae putting a design in the center of the blocks for quilting! If you have any bits and bobs of lace you could put those on too! There are no rules in quilting!! Only if you want there to be

Do I have to hoop the quilt or use WSS and temp adhesive?

I think this would be the method I would use. it would give it some weight so that it would lay nicely !

I did it like oldhag said, quilted in the ditch and tomorrow I will add some DBS designs in the center blocks. I hope it still is nice when I'm finished........

Please take another picture for us when it is finished. I sure hope you do not make it a waste bin project. It looks wonderful. Also, you did a wonderful job on the points for a first timer.

This is how it looks now. I think it's nice to quilt the green outside but I'm so scared I ruin the quilt because I never done that and don't know how to do it.
The second picture is of the back (I bet you knew that already LOL)

Actually the back looks like a whole other quilt hanging. I didn't know it was the back. Very beautiful and I agree with goldha as well for the method she uses.

      Anael,
When I birth a quilt I usually quilt along the eged about 1/4 inch from the edge just to keep it's shape. I can't believe you're a novice quilter!!! Great work!
