Hi, just joined this forum and I am finding it difficult to find an embroidery specialist in my area. When I put a search on the web all I get is embroiderers for poloshirts etc etc.
I want someone who just does it from home and would be willing to embroider some of my own clothes, and for selling to friends and family. Please advise.

Welcome Flowerbomb. I know that there are several wonderful people in here from the UK; hopefully they don't live so far and can help you. Good luck.

Welcome Flowerbomb. I am from North Wales. Do you not Embroider yourself? I think most People just do it for themselves but try ringing Jaycotts in Chester who sell machines or your local Embroidery Machine Dealer, they may know someone! Good Luck with your search!

Hi flowerbomb - I'm in East Sussex, so a bit too far from you, although my son and his partner may be moving to the Manchester area fairly soon.
If you have plans on selling items it would make sense to join the ranks of machine embroiderers - it is a wonderful hobby, and so easy to get started - and the limit is just about as far as your imagination can stretch! with new techniques joining the old 'tried and tested' ones all the time.
Unfortunately, if you plan to go via someone else's work you will probably find the cost prohibitive - the standard rate that most home-embroiderers go by is $1.00 per thousand stitches (and usually extras like a one-off hooping charge per job), and, unless they are really local to you, you will have p&p on top of that.
1000 stitches don't go very far in most designs.
My suggestion is that you look around at all the embroidery designs that are offered for free by so many sites on the internet (look for links in the forum's freebie section).
You can get a free design viewer from Tajima Ambassador, (https://www.pulsemicro.com/pulse-pro...sador-usa.htms)
so that you will be able to see how they stitch out, and what is involved (and that may well get you hooked!)

Welcome to the forum flowerbomb. doing the embroisery yourself is fun and not to complicated either. You'd enjoy it. Go to a machine dealer and check one out. Yui'll find yourself hooked before you know it!

Hello, Flowerbomb. Welcome to DBS. I must also recommend a visit to your local sewing center to get a feel for home machine embroidery. Once you see how easy embroidery is, you will decide that you can do it all yourself. Hope you will share your decision with us.

Hi Flowerbomb, welcome! What an unusual username you choose!
I can only confirm what had been said so far - machine embroidery is a wonderful hobby, and not too difficult to learn. However, there is something the others have tried to keep you in the dark about: it gets highly addictive, with no chance of a cure!

Welcome flowerbomber! Machine Embroidery is so satisfying. I started doing my own embroidery so I could use the designs on my own clothing. Now I am hooked.
