My Pfaff will accept PES, PCS, VIP (one they advocate). 4D is a pretty comprehensive system and seems to download all right, but I often find the colors are blues and greens, rather than the original colors. I print out the sheet (even though it is blue/green) and then list the correct colors for the design on the sheet.
Sometimes the colors are not right depending on the number of colors and shades of colors in the color pallet of the version o the software that design was digitzed in.
Some older versions have less colors than the newer ones.
Same goes for using the design formats on older machines or newer machines.
Older machines and their software have limited color pallets and the newer ones have more colors in their color pallet.
An older machine will show only a few colors of a design correctly and the rest of the colors are shown in colors that are within the machines color pallet and are not the correct colors for the design, but the numer of colors and color changes should be right for the design.
New machine will show more colors correctly.
So it is always good to use the Color Chart that comes with the designs from the digitizer.
You usually can print off the color chart that comes with the design from the digitzer as it is usually in a text format or PDF format.
Just folow this for the colors of the design when you embroider the design.

I read comments in this thread and have become slightly intimidated. The UPS man brought my Christmas present from my husband several weeks too early. I KNOW I have a DE1 sitting in my living room, but I'm NOT allowed to open or play with it. I've started to copy and convert my current pes files to HUS, but now I'm not sure if I will have to convert them again to SHV. It's not a problem, just a concern at this point. My excitement is building until I am actually allowed to "play" with my new toy. It's nice to know I have a place to return to should I have more questions once I am able to be "hands on".
The main reason I went on a search in the forum is to find out what size hoop comes with the DE1? I've been using a Brother SE270D and am eager to start searching for larger designs that I've seen in the past, but couldn't use due to size.

Yes the machine needs the designs in th SHV format but that does not mean they have to be converted other formats to Hus first .
If you have designs in the Pes format (pes up to version 5 format) than you do not need
to convert them to Hus format.
If you get the Husqvarna software with the Designer1 then it should include a program called Disk Manager.
Disk manager will read several formats other than the native formats of Husqvarna Machines. This means it will read Pes format up to Version 5, Dst, Exp, Pcs, |Sew, Vip, Hus to name a few with the exception of the Art format and the Version 6 Pes format that it can not read.
Disk Manager program will write these formats to the SHV format and they do not have to be converted to Hus or VIP before they are put through Disk Manager.
What program are you using to conver designs with right now?
Do you know if you are getting any software with the D1 machine?
Does the Designer1 machine you are getting have the Floppy Disk or the USB Stick to put designs on for the machine?

These are the hoop available for the D1 or that came with my machine.
100 x 100 mm - Came with machine

Here is the link to Husqvarna's web site and D1. Just select what you want to know about the machine and it will explain more. You can even download classic fasions, designs to use on household items like pillows, etc. Enjoy your machine when you get to play. I have the floppy one and my service person said I can convert it to USB, but why mess with something that works fine. Yvonne
Thanks so much for your responses. I have no idea from whom the machine was purchased, but it appears to be brand new.
I never would have guessed that it would use something other than HUS. It wasn't difficult to switch all my files from pes to hus, and it won't be difficult to switch the hus to shv. I have Sewwhat Pro for adjustments and conversions.
I have been on the Husqvarna/Viking site, but all I could really find was the brochure for the machine which wasn't detailed enough to be helpful.
Generally speaking, I feel like I'm seven again and Christmas seems way too far away.

If you have the sew What Pro program then you will not need the H/V software (Disk manager) to convert to SHV.
If you have the Sewwhat Pro program then could you just convert the Pes format to SHV format?
This would be the easiest for you, saving the step of converting to Hus first.
I am not familar with the Sew What Pro program so it may be worth trying and experimenting with converting straight from pes to SHV.
The Shv Files you would have to write directly to a floppy or USB stick for the machine.
If your machine is new then it may have the USB stick and not the Floppy Drive to get the designs into your machine,
You would only have to convert the Pes format designs to SHV when you want to use the designs in your machine.
So you do not have to convert now ahead of time.
Otherwise you would have to store the SHV files on many, many USB Sticks or Floppies for the machine.
The only designs I convert to SHV are the ones I purchase as this gives me 1 extra copy of the designs besides the file that I received when I purchased them.
I also back up the original files on CDs and another external harddrive.
I then can convert designs as I want to use them on my machine.
To learn more about your machine I would suggest you join the D1 Yahoo group where Jan Henning and other owners of the D1 machine belong to share ideas and answer questions about the machine.
I think you will find belonging to the D1 group will be very helpful to you in learning your machine. Make sure to answer lots of questions!
I am a member of the group and I have learned so much from Jan over the years.
She has more knowledge about the machines than any dealer I have met.
Aslo there are members of the group that use the Sew What Pro Software to convert their design to SHV for the machine and I am sure they will help you in any way.
Here is the Group Link to join.

Jan Henning has a website of her own that has lots of tips on many of the Husqvarna machines and the software.
She has had many of the machine models over the years and on her website shares her tips about the machines such as the D1.
She also sells Video Tutorials that are actually lessons on using both the sewing and embroidery features of each machine such as the D1.
She takes you step by step through the featrures of the machines.
She also has Tutorial Videos on the Husqvarna Software.
So for more information on the D1 have a look at the following pages on her website.

In the Sew What Pro program you do not have to convert pes to hus first and then to SHV.
You can convert pes or any other format directly to the Shv format.
So convert when you want to use the design on your machine.
This was the answer I got from Jan henning on the D1 Yahoo Group when I asked this question.
So save yourself some work! LOL

Hi, I am quite new too. I would like to ask my question here. hope someone will reply to this. I have some PCS files and other format files but missing is PES format for some of the designs. How to convert it to PES. I am using Brother machine. Please advice. Thanks in advance.
rajanip
Do you have any Brother Software that came with your machine or that you bought separately.
Usually the software that comes with the machine or that you buy would enable you to convert Designs.
What Brother machine do you have?
Perhaps someone here on the Forum with the same machine can help you.
Also there are free programs that you can do the conversions with.

Gartner, you have provided excellent information here. Myself I am using SewWhat-PRO. Somewhere here I have some old viking disk manager and and the old reader/writer. I have both a D1 (floppy) and a #1+. For the #1+ I am using the pes2card box because the updates for viking are too much money .
