      Default Received a Designer 1

My grandma gave me her "old" Designer 1. I am so excited. I have played around with it a bit. I have a question though. I tried to put some designs on floppy drives from designsbysick. I uploaded the HUS files, and they show up on the floppy drive (when I look at it on the computer). However, when I put the floppy in the sewing machine, it says "file not found". Did I do something wrong when I copied, and pasted them from my computer to the floppy drive?? I would really appreciate any help. I am making an art bag for my daughter, and really want to embroider this design that I found on designsbysick.
Thanks, and I'm exited about this forum

Does your Designer 1 require SHV format? You may need to find a conversion program.

I don't know what it requires. How can I find out?

Okay, I found an old floppy from my grandma that has designs that do work on the sewing machine. It has SHV files on it. My grandma has 3D and 4D programs. When I go to pick a design, which format do I choose. And then, how do I turn it into SHV?

When saving the design, choose "Save As" SHV.

      La cole,

When I go to a sick design, the only options are "art" "dst" "exp" "hus" "jef" "pcs" "pes" "sew" "vip" and "xxx". Which one of those do I download?

You'll love playing with your D1. I've had one for 7 years and I love it. You asked which format to download. I have the 4D software and I have no problems when I download the .hus files. Isn't this forum wonderful where you can ask all kinds of questions--and get answers!

Hey Hon, have you tried to call the help desk from your machine book? My 4D converts for my Pfaff but not for my Kenmore I had to order a separate converter for this and am still waiting for it. Best of luck and CONGRATS on your new baby!!

Your D1 use the SHV format to stitch the designs out.
If you can download the SHV format in a zip file or an excecutable file then you can download it to your computer and then extract the files directly to your floppy disk for your machine.
Otherwise you require a software program that will write other formats to the SHV format for your disk.

If you have Husqvarna/Viking Software then the following applies to writing the designs to the floppy disk.

In order to write the SHV format to your machine floppy you need to put the designs that are in other formats such as Hus, Vip, Pes (up to version 5 PES), Dst, Exp,Pcs, XXX, Sew, & Jeff through the Disk Manager program that is part of the Husqvarna or Viking software programs such as 3D or 4D Software or older Customizing Plus software.

These Husqvarna Software programs will not read any versions of the ART format or the newer Version 6 of the Pes format.

Disk Manager reads the formats and changes them into SHV format and will write the Designs to your floppy in the SHV format so you can then put it into your machine and stitch them out.

If you have the 3D or 4D program loaded on your computer then look under Accessories in the program for the Disk Manager.

Now if you download a design fron the internet from places like Sick Designs you can download any of the above formats except for Pes Version 6 or ART formats.

The native formats for the Husqvarna/ Viking machines such as the Designer1 are Hus, VIP and VIP3.

The 4D software will read VIP3 best but will read VIP, Hus and other machine formats and the Disk Manager will chage these to the SHV format.
4Dsoftware and the VIP3 format have more colors and shades of colors in their color pallet range and will show more colors in a Design correctly.

Not sure if 3D software will read VIP3 or not but will read VIP, Hus and other formats and uses Disk Manager to change to SHV format for the Machine.
3DSoftware and VIP have less colors and shades of colors in the color pallet and will show less colors in a design correctly.

The Customizing Plus software will read VIP, Hus and other machine formats and uses Disk manager to change these to SHV.

The oldest Husqvarna Software(can`t remember the name) only reads the Hus format.
The oldest software and the Hus format have a lot less colors and color shades in it`s color pallet than the VIP or VIP3 formats and the 4D & 3D software.

Your first choice would be VIP or VIP3 as it will show more colors and shades of colors correctly in the designs on your Designer machine once converted to SHV.
The older Hus format has less colors in its color pallet so less colors will show correctly in a design if it has several colors and shades of colors.

Pes formats up to Vesion 5 will also show more colors correctly.
      .
DST format will not show the colors of any design right but shows color stops or color changes as it is based on these rather than a color pallet.
DST format is one of the truest formats and most machines or the machine software will read the DST format to converts to other machine formats.

Each format that you can download will differ in how many colors shows right for the design in your software and machine.

This is largely due to the version of software that the design was initially digitzed in and given in and also the version of software you have to read the designs for your machine.

The newer the version of software the more colors and shades of colors it will have.

The older the version of software the less colors and shades of colors it will have and show.
So if there are 2 or 3 shades of one color in a design the older software may only show these 3 colors as one color 3 times in a design and not show them correctly in the colors or shades they should be for the design.

Also as new machines come out the newer machines are capable of reading designs with more colors.
The older machines read less colors.

The best thing to do is always use the Color Chart that usually comes with the designs when you buy them from a digitzer or download free designs on the internet.
The color charts from the digitzers will always give you the colors for the design and then you just follow the color chart as you stitch and change to the next color in a design no matter what color is shown on your machine.

I have a Designer 1 and a older #1+ machine and use the older Customizing Plus software but I am familar with most of the Husqvarna Software.
If you need help just ask away here on the forum and we will all help.

Now if you do not have access to your Grandmas 3D or 4D software then you will need another program that writes the designs to the disk for your machine in the SHV format.

There are other programs that will write your designs in the SHV format for your machine that are not made by Husqvarna and cost less than buying the Husqvarna software.

One is the Embird Basic program.
Another I think is the Sew What Pro Program made by Sandscomputing.

Also I would like to invite you to join a Yahoo group that is for the Designer 1 machine and it`s owners.
It is the best group to belong to for your machine and to learn more about it and that will answer many questions you may have about your machine.

Here is a link to the Group. Click it and it the right top corner theer should be a Join Button to click on to join the group.
      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vikingd1/

I belong to this group and have learned so much about my machine over the years that I have had it.
Jan Henning runs this group and she is very experienced in all the Husqvarna machines and the software for them as she has had many of the machine models over the years and the different versions of the software.
She has more knowledge about Husqvarna machines than any machine dealer I have met.

Jan can answer your questions about these other programs that can write to your disk for your machines so please ask them on this Yahoo group once you join.

Please join the group and learn with us!

Here is the Website that sells the Sew What Pro software that will write designs to the D1 Floppy Disk in the Shv format for the machine.

You can down load a free 21 trial of BuzxExplorer. This program will convert the file to the .SHV file. You can only load 6 designs on the floppy. If you go to the Husqvara website you can find free .shv designs. The free November design is out there and it is in .shv format

      http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/2894.htm

My D1 still has the floppy and love her. If you have any questions and would like to talk you can call me. Just PM me and I will give you my phone #.

Check out Jan Hennings website. She has tons of information.

      http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/

There is a Yahoo group for the D1 also you can join and ask questions specific to the D1.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Hello and welcome!! What a nice Grandma to give you her DE1. I have that same machine, only with a 'stick' instead of a disc, and I use 4D . You will have lots of fun with this new hobby.

      Thanks for all your replies.
I went to http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/ti...iskManager.pdf to see how to use the disk manager. However, when I go into 4D, the "read disk" button is not activated. The only button that works, is "read stick". I don't know if that's because my grandma uses this program with her stick or what. How can I change the settings of 4D so I can read my disk? BTW, the floppy disk is inserted this whole time. Also, when I click on "preferences" and then "disk options", it only says "none" under drives.
Thanks again for all your help.

OMG, I figured it out!! I was able to add my designer 1 under the configure menu. I am writing my disk as we speak. Unfortunately I don't have my designer 1 with me, to make sure the design is successfully saved, but I'll have to wait until tonight to see

One thing we should mention to you about writing designs to your floppy is that when you want to add more designs to the floppy make sure you first Read the floppy in Disk Manager and that will put all the designs that you have on the floppy already on the Disk Manager screen.

This allows you to see what is already on the floppy and if you want you can save those designs to your computer if you want to take them off the floppy before adding more designs to the floppy.

Also if you still want the designs on the floppy and just want to add more then this will rewrite the ones that are already on the floppy along with the new ones.

Otherwise you could loose the ones that are already on it.

Let us know how you do with using Disk Manager and getting the designs to your machine in the SHV Format.
