      Question Hi from Missouri

I am new to these forums and have only had my embroidery/sewing machine for less than a year. This is the first embroidery machine I have owned and feel that I really know nothing. I scour the internet constantly. I have sewn for all of my life but when I retired, I treated myself to a new Husqvarna Viking Diamond. I am slowly learning but think I would have to live two lifetimes to ever know what all this machine can do. I am looking for a group specific to this machine. Does anyone belong to one or know of one? Thanks.

Congration the the Husqvarna Diamond. I would love to own that machine. It does it all. I do own a Husqvarna Platinum 955. It is nice, the only problem is I still have to use a card and don't have a screen to view designs with. It only give you a number.
Welcome to the forum you should find alot of great people here with alot for great ideas. If you get a chance show us a few of what you have done.

Welcome to DBS, masofseven. Did you also purchase a software package? I have owned my HV Platinum Plus and 3D Studio for five years and am still learning. I only dream about the Diamond... Anyway, you will find some great designs here to use with your machine and the people at the forums are very friendly and helpful. Hope you can spend some time with us in between sewing and embroidering.

Welcome to a great group. I have only had my machine for a little over a year and this is the best site, everyone is eager to help when you ask a question. There is a lot of inspiration if you look in some of the albums. I for one know that my to do list has grown since I joined this group. I don't have your machine, I have a babylock but hopefully someone will come along that has your machine. There is probably a yahoo group just for your specific machine. The one for my machine isn't as good as for some other machines, seems there are more adds on it than anything. This site is very friendly to use and a lot of great information so just hang in there.

Welcome to the forum. It's a great place to be in contact with like-minded people. I can't help you with your machine as I'm a Janome girl but check the Yahoo groups for a group with your machine. There are always people in the groups who can answer questions you may have.

      Hi masofseven, and welcome.
Are you producing projects that you are happy with? or are you having problems getting the machine to do as you would like?
If you need advice on a particular technique, or type of design, you only need to shout, and you'll get advice in bucket loads from all the wonderful and talented ladies (and one or two gentlemen) who 'hang out' in these forums round the clock.
I think that the way the forums work is much more relaxed and comfortable than a Yahoo group, where you have to communicate with emails, and wait for people to wade through their mail box before they get to your particular question.
I also think that the best way to learn about your machine, is to think up a project and then just go right ahead and do it, - these machines are VERY clever, and when they are combined with good digitizing, there is not much that will go wrong. (And if anything does go wrong, there is bound to be someone here who will know how to remedy it.)
If it is inspiration you need, have a look through some of the members albums - your head will be spinning with so many new ideas.

Thanks for so many responses. I am lost in using this site. I know this is a Yahoo group but I thought I also found a Diamond group, so I don't know to whom I am replying-that said- I have not done a lot with my machine as we did a remodeling project last winter. I have made some American Girl doll clothes for one of my granddaughters. I do baby gifts, receiving blankets, burp rags, hooded bath towels, kitchen towels, sport towels, but I have so many projects I want to do stacked up to do that I don't know where to start. I keep collecting designs and supplies. I did get the 4D Embroidery Extra with my machine and I am gradually adding speciality feet, which are very expensive. I jus bought the new dual feed foot because I am going to make 6 robes for grandchildren (which I will want to monogram). I am also making my a cape out of fleece and the foot worked great on that.

I am excited to be part of this group as I have never done anything like this before (I usually just snoop and look at other people's work). Any help on using this site will be much appreciated. I am staying with two of my granddaughters while my daughter is out of town. I have fast internet service here but will go home to the country tonight where our service is slow. UGH

Masofseven - Welcome to the group. You've found a great group especially if you are new to machine embroidery. There is a lot of talent in this group. And everyone is friendly and willing to share and help when needed. I do not have your machine but I'm sure some one will pop in and discover your post. It sounds as though you are very busy with sewing and have decided to add the embroidery touch. I know you will have lots of fun with your machine. With practice you will be amazed how much you will learn and be able to do in such a short time. And when you have questions or problens to resolve, there is always someone online who can help. We are glad you have joined the forum. Cathy

masofseven - I had mine for over a year before I did much with it - then I came here and learned a lot - now I use it constantly. I think I was afraid of it!! but after reading the stuff here I learned - I joined a local group and now I just DO! It's loads of fun and with all the designs I've got - the hardest part is choosing what to do next!!

So feel free to ask questions - read the how to sections and just hang out and join the craziness and fun here.

      Default Husqvarna Diamond

Congratulations on treating yourself to a new machine. I love mine! I have an 11 year old Designer I too. My advice to you is that if you can go to the free lessons to learn your machine that is a good place to start. Also, if there are any sewing or embroidery project groups offered where you bought your machine try to attend. I learned a lot about my machine each time I have gone. The tutorials and great to whittle at when you have the time. There is soooo much to learn! Now you have an excuse to make all kinds of projects!
Life is too short even on the longest days.

      Default Wow

You all are so kind and generous with you encouragement. I have viewed some projects and they are wonderful. I am overwhelmed!!
I have found with my Designer Diamond that any problems I have encountered so far have been the operator and not the machine. I am slowly bonding with my machine. I had sewn on my old Singer Furtura (top of the line at that time) for over 30 years and I could run in there and adjust to her temperment and go. I absolutely love this new Diamond though and I spent a long time doing research and looking before finally taking the plunge. I am not regretting it either. I just regret that I don't have a local dealer. My dealer is 70 miles away and the one that I wish I had found first is 100 miles away. Oh well!!
      Thanks, Phyllis from Walker MO

This is the Designs by Sick Forum that you are on now.
      Welcome.
There is lots of help here for you regarding embroidery and sewing.

I own a Husqvarna/ Viking Designer 1 machine and an older H/V #1 Plus machine.
Both are sewing and embroidery machines.

There is a Yahoo Group for the Diamond machine at the link below that you can join.
Just click the link and you will go there.

      Hi again Phyllis!

Here is a website with lots of tips for the Designer Dimond Machine.
This website belongs to Jan Henning.

She has owned just about every Husqvarna/Viking machine made and is a wealth of information regarding all the Husqvarna/viking machines and the software for them.

I highly recommend to you to read the information on Jan's website as she has wonderful tips.
She also has made and sells Videos on using the different machines such as the Diamond which she now owns.
You may find her videos on your machine very helpful as you mentioned you are a fair distance from the dealer you bought your machine from.

Here is Jan's main website link which you can click on to get there.
      http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/index.html

Here is the link to Jan's Tip Page for all the various machines and software.
Always lots of information here and she keeps uddating the tips.
Click the link below and you will get directly to the Tips Page

      http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/tips.html

And here is the link to the page she has her videos for sale on. Click the link below
You can just click on the ones for your machine or software to find out what the videos entails and see the price for each.

      http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/videos.html

The Videos make great Xmas Presents so drop hints so someone will get them for you! LOL

Hope this helps you with your new machine.
We would love to hear more from you here on the forum.

      Default Henning CDs

Hi Denise, thanks for all of your info. One of the smart things that I have done is order all of Jan Henning's CDs. I do have her website marked in my favorites and go there frequently to look for updates. I will say that I have already received my money's worth from her CDs. I can put one in and follow along with my machine. She covers all of the basics and I have learned lots there. I look forward to learning from all of you on this site. Sounds like you have lots of experience with the Vikings.
Thanks again, Phyllis from Walker MO

      Hi Phyllis

I am so glad to hear you have the videos from Jan's site.
I belong to the D1 Yahoo group that Jan is on and I have learned so much from her over the years that I have had my 2 machines.
I believe that Jan knows more about the H/V machines than any dealer that sells them.

Don't ever hesitate to email Jan from her contact link on her website if you have questions, She is always willing to help.
I wasn't sure if she is on the Yahoo group for the Diamond machine but I would not be surprised if she is.

Let us know if you need information on stabilizers, thread ,bobbins, needles etc.
There are lots of places online that sell good products and the prices are much better than you get at the fabric stores and machine dealers.

There is lots to learn about embroidery and I don't think we ever stop learning.
Take it slow and learn as you go!
Ask lots of questions until you understand the concepts.
And above all have fun and don't be afraid to try new things.

      Denise in Calgary
