Default 50 State Quilt block swap

      Hello everyone,
Klarina emailed me all the states. Here is what she has suggested we do with the blocks:

Here is what I suggest for this quilt swap.
we could make a basic 6 1/2 inch blocks, white on white cotton, with the outline of the state embroidered on the center.

We could then sew a 2 1/5 inch blue or red jelly roll on all four sides for a 10 1/2 inch final block.

So far I have heard from 5 people that want to do this swap. I will email the embroidery files to you with the states you want to do. Below is a list of the five people doing this swap at this time and the states that they want to do:

      1. Tndenium----Ohio and Maine
      2. Natuechick--- Tennessee, Georgia, and Montana
      3. Teddy_RN-- Nebraska, South Carolina and North Carolina
      4. Boblynn55----WA
      5. Quilt Silly-----No state picked at this time

Anyone else wanting to join the 50 state quilt block swap let me know. We are doing this in honor of Klarina as she becomes a United States Citizen.

This swap will begin Jan. 15th and everyone will have till March the 1st to sign up. All blocks will need to be mailed by March 31st. I will provide my address at a later date.

Please let us all get together and in honor of a new citizen help her get her 50 state quilt. Also wouldn't be cool to have one on our own? If we have 22 people sign up and since Teddy and myself have picked 3 states the rest of ya'll will need to do only 2 states. Please post your opinion on this.

      Thanks,
      Luise (Naturechick)

I am posting in this in a new thread for Luise.

Not a problem Klarina. I think it would be a neat quilt to make. Luise hasn't figured out everything here yet - so when she called me at work today - I told her I'd post it in a new thread for her. Crazy lady - but a good friend.

      Default Question answered

      Ok,
We can add whatever we want to the blocks to make them special. For example: I can add music notes to the state of Tennessee to represent country music, or I can add the state bird, etc.

I hope this answered the question.

Oops, I'm sorry - I didn't realize that you were using specific design files, so please take my name off the list.

It's a good idea to use the same design set - it will be nice to have that common thread running through the quilt - I just don't have an embroidery machine and to tell the truth, I may not get another one.

It's no problem, though - I can catch the next swap. And that may fit better into the time I have available, anyway. Winter and spring are going to be really busy for me.

Elizabeth, don't go from the swap. It is OK to do the blocks appliquéd or hand embroidered as first you mentioned. I think the main purpose is the participation and the fun. These guidelines are simply suggestions and are not set on stone. The only thing fixed are the measurements to keep the blocks uniform and the colors to keep the US theme. Inside you can put whatever symbols you see fit of the state you chose. Thanks.

I have to tell you that Klarina is so generous! She even offered to do the embroidered parts for me! What a sweetie!

But, really and truly - I've taken on so much lately that I'm starting to overwhelm myself again. When I realized that y'all were using specific image files, I bowed out - and immediately felt relieved. That's a clue that I'm trying to do too much.

I will enjoy seeing what you all do with this theme, though. Some really nice quilts will come out of this!

WOW!!! This is going to be GREAT! I am excited that not only is this a 'community' project but in my case a family project

My sisters and I am talking about a long weekend after we get our blocks so that we can quilt them and have done with it all at once. sounds wonderful all the way around.

I love that this project has taken a life of its own. I can "see" the quilt finished and my hear swells with joy just thinking of it.

I prepared a sample, with 6 1/2 center and a 2 1/2 jelly roll on the four sides. The final block is 10 1/2.

My suggestion is the jelly roll is red, red with white, blue, blue with white or red, white and blue. Which ever combination you see fit for the 3 USA flag colors.

And I have a question: how many blocks are we going to make of each one of our states?

Since we might have one, two or three states, I started thinking how are we going to make this? And I thought that we could make 50 blocks if we have one state, 25 of each if we have two states or 17 of each if we have 3 states... and everything was very clear in my mind before it got very confusing once again.... Has anyone give this some thinking?
