      Default Here I go again...

I really appreciate having this place to vent. Just got back from the grocery store where I went to buy apples and chickens, both on sale for 68 cents a pound. I looked at my receipt on the way out and didn't see those bargain apples. The manager saw me and asked if there was a problem. Sure enough, I had been charged 1.29/lb. The manager was gracious and refunded the total amount. Free apples. Smart manager. BUT (now here's the rub), this has happened to me multiple times recently in multiple grocery stores. Sometimes it's in the computer incorrectly. Sometimes it's the clerk. They never seem to err in my favor. I guess it's buyer beware.

      Caveat emptor.....

      • Caveat emptor is Latin for "Let the buyer beware."
      • Caveat emptor was first laid down as a principle in United States law in 1817, in a decision written by Chief Justice John Marshall for Laidlaw v. Organ.
      • Caveat venditor — "Let the seller beware" — is the counter to caveat emptor.
I know it doesn't help how you feel, but it's an interesting bit of trivia.

Mylisa, when this happens to me, I wish I still lived in Tennessee. We had a grocery store there that had the policy of "If it rings up wrong, it's free." There weren't many mistakes made there, but they stood by their policy when there were.

Has anyone else run across the scenario when you see a new design set & go to categorize it and it says you have already categorized it? But you haven't - you just found it was listed.

Sometimes it's a computer glitch and you have to wait it out or it could be that all sets have been done and the system haven't caught up.

I've noticed that a lot of them don't update the sales right. You really have to watch. And I have one store where when I write a check for cash back - you have to be real careful because they "forget" to give it to you and they seem to get you talking and you get involved and "forget" then I always have to come back in and get my money - GRRRRR

It makes me mad when I see something on sale and go take it to check out and find out somebody put the item down in the wrong place!
I have also got to the check out stand and thought I had a sale item just to find out the store didn't take down the sale sign! Grrrrrrrrr! Joyce

I think they gain more good PR by honoring the sale price, if the mistake was the store's. I don't think it's the same if a customer puts an item in the wrong place.

I agree. If the sign is up, they should honor the price. If they didn't I would sure ask to see a manager.

In British Columbia we have a thing called scanning code of practice. Most stores join, it is from the government. If the item scans wrong and is under $10.00 then it is free, if it is over $10.00, then you save that amount on the purchase. Many people don't know about it, but I learned it when I worked at WalMart. Good to know.

Rebekah, That's a great idea. Wish we had it in Oregon.

We have that policy in Australia in most stores and if the sign is up then they have to sell it to you at that price..

its amazing how often things are charged at the wrong price tho.

I bought two rolls of the same stabalizer. One was prices $3 less than the other. I didn't notice, but the clerk did. She charged me the lesser price for both. Smart clerk! I will be back in that store again when I need things!

we have to be so careful when shopping ...between outdated sale signs, merchandise in the wrong area and computer systems not updated it can cause a lot of confusion
