That is my biggest pet peeve, you don't have to have money to have clean clothes on when you go somewhere especially church. and the flip flops does no one wear shoes anymore. Ok I will give someone else a turn to step up on the soap box.
Dorie I agree that of all the places to come at your best church is that place. And I am not comfortable with shorts in church but if it must be you should be clean from head to toe.

Mylisa, if you are just getting old, I must be too!!

I worked for the Utah Symphony box office for several years, and I was horrified at what some people chose to wear. They were buying $50 tickets, but would wear torn t-shirts and jeans with flip-flops (what my mom calls shower shoes). Even just as ticket sellers, we would dress up on concert days/nights, but these people who had the money to wear somewhat dressy clothes (not even a suit and dress, but at least something nice) seemingly couldn't even be bothered.

And right up there with the people dressing so very casual for church (something I would never do, and not just because my mom would haunt me forever if I did) is the way people dress for a wedding. I've actually seen people show up to a wedding reception in swim suits! What on earth were they thinking? Maybe that while they were there, they would take a dip in the hotel's pool?

I completely agree about the idea that the way one dresses for a given event symbolizes their respect for said event. This has long been a pet peeve of mine, and now I've subjected all of you to my ranting. Sorry about that.

Cutiepie, you've hit on the exact dilemma. They can't be bothered! I don't think we all care if the clothing is 'the very best' or how expensive it is as much as we care that someone took the time to think about where they were going and give some thought to decorum.

I went to a wedding this summer that took place in a lodge in the Columbia River gorge. It was a casual setting, but the guests looked as though they cared enough to dress nicely - except a couple ofguys who showed up in shorts. Yes, it's a case of good manners and respect.

perhaps they were there purely for the music.

the only times i would find clothing reprehensible is when someone iswearing a "Life.Be in it" shirt to a funeral, or a string bikini to a respected place. It is when someone has deliberate bad taste, and not simply poor taste, that upsets me.

i can't say that attire has improved a performance.

Mind you,if it did, i dare say there are a few parents who would dress in evening wear for recitals of childrens recorder music hehe *rubs ears ruefully*

Well, I have to admit, I am with you there. I do deliveries for a dental lab in the afternoons. Even when it is over 100 degrees, I still dress to represent the company..A dress, slacks and a blouse..NO CUTOFFS AND TANK TOPS. I too, get discussed with the way people dress for "special events". Work is suppose to be dress for the job..if you are in the professional world don't wear jeans to work..As for church, OMG, it amazes me that people wear "work clothes", like tshirts and jeans to church. I guess I am as old as dirt. I hate that people wear "piercings" and "tatoos" that are showing in a work envirnoment..nothing spoils a good dinner out like the view of the waitress with a nose ring and huge tatoo..Sorry, I just had to put in my 2 cents worth..God Bless

I try to dress appropriate for where I am going. I do wear sandles or sneakers all the time. My sandles are leather. I have sneakers in several colorsso that they will blend in with my slacks. If someone is so concerned with what I wear on my feet, that it offends them, I do not care. I have a major foot problem, and can only wear certain brands of shoes. My choice is limited to sandles and sneakers. If I wear anything else, I cannot walk for several days, even if I only wear them for a few minutes. I have had surgery on my feet several times, and I would like to continue to be able to walk. I follow the instructions of the surgeons very closely.

See? Even here you are showing that you are taking thought about what you are wearing. Sure, you might be wearing what might be considered "casual" footwear, but you try to do the color-coordinating thing so that you still look nice. It only really bothers me when it appears that the person in question didn't even think about what they looked like, and just went. That is fine for some things, but I find it disrespectful in other situations.

I guess I should just be happy that "they" are there at all, huh?

I agree! Part of the fun of going out to performances and events is to wear something a bit special. It is also in respect for the performers not to wear casual clothing like shorts. I was staying at hotel that served free full breakfast and a woman came for breakfast in her PJs and slippers! Yikes!
Life is too short even on the longest days.

I've seen that several times. I just don't get that . Why would you think that you should treat a public dining room the way you would your own kitchen?
