I personally can not help you but best of luck. I am neither an artist nor do I digitize but would eventually like to learn to digitize.
Hi all~
I am totally new here, desperate to learn more about your trade. Please let me explain. I am not a digitizer, I am a clipart artist. I have had a lot of interest in my work as of late, especially in regards to exclusive use. I have no idea how to price my work in that regard. I've done a ton of research into other artists who sell exclusive designs, but many are tight lipped about what they charge!
Since you all are using the clipart, I thought I would take a chance and ask if anyone was willing to share what might be the customary cost of purchasing a piece of original, one of a kind clipart for digitizing? I'm sure there will be a range of answers, but it would really help me come up with a general price.
I feel like all the work I have done over a long period of time is now at a stand still as I just cannot seem to get this one thing together! Other artists don't want to share...so I thought I would ask if those who buy clipart maybe would give some insight. I have no idea how much is too much, and don't want to undersell myself. I am NOT here to sell or promote my designs to anyone, nor am I asking clipart vendors to be named. I am looking for info and experienced opinions.
Anyway, I will totally understand if nobody wants to share, but I also signed up here to learn more about digitizing so I can better serve my customers. There is a lot to learn
Thanks so much for your time and listening to a newb in this area, hope to get to know many of you here. Thanks so much if anyone can tell me of their experiences in purchasing clipart and prices paid.

I don't do either, but you could probably do a Google search on 'clipart' and find plenty of sites to see what others charge. Good luck.
Are you planning to sell your clip art individually or in design sets? Most embroidery digitizers are interested in sets, usually in sets of 10 or occasionally offered in sets of 12 (which the quilters love, since it gives enough to make a quilt without duplicating any of the designs).
For exclusive design sets, I have seen anywhere from $20 to $50. Alright, technically I have even seen sets offered for sale for $300, but that was from already well-known artists. I believe that the most common is around $30-35. It would also depend on the quality and intricacy of the designs. The fancier or more realistic the designs, the more you can realistically charge for them.
I hope that gives you a little bit of insight. Good luck with your business venture!
I buy from several digitizers. Of course if you are selling the set to only one individual. The price is about $70.00. Semi- exclusive generally goes from $20.00 to $50.00.
Those are the ones I generally buy. They are offered to 6 to 9 people. They also sell sets that are unlimited. Generally they charge $5.00 to $10.00 for those. I as a digitizer have bought them as well but I prefer the semi-exclusive. Of course is there is an exclusive set I love I will buy it.
Send me an email at admin@embclip.com.
Maybe we can help each other.
My name is Dan.
I see you got some clipart up for sale. Can't wait to see a free sample. When I get one I will send you a picture of it digitized. I see right now you are offering semi-exclusive only. Are you going to be doing unlimited too? Will keep checking back. Also offering specials from time to time is a great idea.
Hugs, Patty
Hi Patty,
That is a good question - I pondered on it when setting the site up, and decided to go with semi exclusive, as that seems to be what everyone wants.
Of course, the customers always decide, and if I get request for unlimited, I'll do it.
I'll get some freebies up soon so you can try them out - I think you will like them.
I digitize, but do not sell what I do. I donate them to the Smiles for Children Project. (toys, paperdolls, tic tac toe sets... etc) Since I do not sell what I make, I tend not to pay more than $10 per set of clipart. I realize I may not be the typical customer, but even if I was selling, unless I had a huge customer base, it is hard to make money when you have to pay $70 for the artwork, then hours of digitizing.. test sew outs. I buy from Whimsey Primsey, and several others. I do not like to pay to use artwork.. (again, I do not sell my designs, so maybe someone who does, does not mind paying $25 and up for the "rights" to use clipart.
JDS clipart is another source that I use.
Some have such limited uses, that as a digitizer, it is not worth the hassle. Limits on how many sets you can sell, that you cannot change ANYTHING about the design *color, size, etc. These are some of the things I look at.
