      Default $10 Christmas

So this year, my mom suggested that we do $10 Christmas! Gifts at most should be $10, so I am going to make most of mine!
I had already started Christmas tree napkins for my mom so that will be hers I am using some of the fabric that I got for 4 meters for $1 so that should be good.

I am going to do a bingo bag for one of my SILs. She goes every weeks so I thought that would be a good idea.

As for the rest of them I am kind of stuck! My dad is pretty mellow and I have a hard time getting him anything even without the $10 limit. HE is retired and does alot of work with the Canadian Legion. He likes darts and beer making. I am having a hard time finding some nice designs though. I was thinking I could do him a golf shirt with a design on it. It may be tricky to find a golf shirt though for under $10 and still have anything left for purchasing a design.

My older brother is hard to buy for too. He likes hunting so perhaps a shirt with something hunting like. Emb library has some on sale. Perhaps you guys might know something else that a "hunter" might like??

My other SIL and my younger brother are both teachers so I was thinking a tote with a teacher like design on it. I know my SIL would like that but my brother tends to take a briefcase so I am not sure he would like a tote. He is also into ships and pirates. Any ideas.

My niece is in love with Dora, which I can't really get a design for. Otherwise she is kind of a tomboy so I am not sure what to do. I am such a girly girl LOL.

Any thoughts, input, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

How about a book on hunting in some part of the world, and you make a book cover. All teachers love books, I was a science teacher and used books of how things worked or strange facts. How about a golf towel and book for dad??? Just ideas. ALso, I think the $10 gifts are a super idea. Dreama

      Mary,
If you had a Brother machine there are Dora designs on a card. I have a Spongebob one and there is also Blue's Clues. If your Dad wears regular T-shirts you could always put a golf design on a regular T. I also think your $10 gifts is a great idea. Especially for us crafty people! Thank you, kt3234 Karen

Teachers like things for their classrooms. You could ask Darla if she has anything she could digitize for hunting for you.

I found a few cute freebies on ATW this morning for my SIL's bag, Now I will have to look for a canvas bag for under $10

Dad isn't a golfer I don't think he has ever played. He doesn't wear regular t shirts but the polo style he does so I can probably find one at zellers or something

I don't have a Brother machine. I have a Dora alphabet though that I am not sure where is came from, but it is 5x7 anyways so it would not work

my DH makes beer also and you can get "blank" aprons at places like Sams and put beer designs on it for use when cooking the mash or getting the whole mess ready cause it can be messy. as for the tomboy - horse designs are always good. also any outdoor designs - put them on a tote or bag she can take to school

Look at some of the designs in the St. Patrick's set on DBS for the beer mug, just do the beer a different color to go on an apron and that would be cute.

Og the st patty's day beer one would be good! I never thought of that!
I forgot about the hunter one too. I wonder if there is anything else besides a tshirt I could put the hunter one on.

I don't think dad would ever wear an apron, but perhaps I could see if he needs a bag or something to store some of the supplies in.

Hey, Mary, Just another idea..how about hand towels with men designs..I have done a few for my Dad and husband, they use them in the shop so they can be really inexpensive..I found some at the dollar store to make some golf towels with and that made them pretty cheap..they look really good though..I made a tote for my grand daughter with a big beautiful butterfly on it and she loves it (she's a tomboy too). There are always scaves as well..in the winter it gets cold enough hunting for scaves with designs on them..check out the outdoor designs and you will find some hunting and here are also some fishing designs on this site, ships as well...totes are really easy to make and so are the scarves...

Mary, Bland Apparel has polos for about $6. I think the $10 limit is great! Especially for us crafters. I substitute for a lot of male teachers, so I'll keep my eyes and ears open. I like the book cover though.

Mary, if you have a screen printing shop near you, check them out. Even if they don't have a retail store, many will order garments for you and much less than retail.

Love the $10 gift idea. I think I'll pass that on to my dsis. I don't have much money right now and I'm a firm believer that if you take the time to make the gift it is giving a part of you and is much better to take the commericialism out of gift giving during the holidays.

I thought that maybe a quilted cover with separted pockets for your dads Darts might be nice . Not sure what he keeps his supplies for making brew. Maybe making him a covered container with a design or lettering on to hold some ingredients would be nice . As for a hunter making a personalized bag to hold rifle or a knife holder would be great. Just a few suggestions I came up with.

Mary, that is just a super idea, esp in this economy. Gonna suggest it to my kids as they always go all out and one of them really can't afford it. I love the idea of hand crafting things, which I usually do in addition to their other gifts. You are blessed with tons of talent tooo!
