      Mary,
Thanks for the link on demo on Balsa Wood. I had tried it 5 years ago and had forgotten all about it. And the less stitch intensive the design, the better. Otherwise the wood will split. But they do turn out very well.
      Sdevries,
You did a very nice job with your embroidery on Balsa. That's great you had a few samples to share. Thanks.

Wow, I never thought that you could embroider on wood. Those cards look really neat. I'm not sure that I will try it anytime soon.

Thanks for the link Mary! I looked at it - they make it look soooo easy! I might try this. . . just so afraid of making my machine unhappy. Anyone else try this that has the Viking Designer 1?

don't be afraid of damaging your machine because you wont hurt it! thick jeansfabric is much harder to embroider on than balsa wood REALY!!!!!

It is also helpful to slow the speed a little if your machine allows this.

Balsa wood is fun to embroider on. I purchase small boxes, then after the embroidery is done, trim to the size of the box and glue embroidered wood on top. This makes a special box for the recipient.

Do you need to use a special needle for that? I woudl be concerned about messing up my machine.
